OSU at TCU

Feel for the players. But they had an opportunity to knock the ball away and tipped it right to the shooter. You gotta make the last play in a close game to win. They played much better than I thought they would tonight though.

That was very Boynton like of Lutz. I’m sitting on the couch after Newman missed the first saying “you gotta miss the second, gotta miss the second”. What is Lutz doing, what are the 10
assistants doing? You think somebody is going to get a rebound and go coast to coast for a two in 3 seconds?

Without much needed influx of NIL, nothing will change, sadly. Football is king around here.
I’ve conceded that bc of nil I’ve probably seen the last deep run by OSU men’s basketball in my life.

We lost tonight bc

1) Again a poor start on the road down 11-2
2) Twice in the second half our pgs drove left into a baseline double team early in the shot clock.
3) Entire game we were chasing or jumping through passing lanes. Make TCU shoot over the top and we win going away.
4) 5th yr sr closes out our last possession of the 1st half by not running a set and taking a shot w 12 seconds left. Misses and they knock down a walk off 3 to end the half.
5) Missed 2 fts in last 30ish seconds. And to compound Newman’s miss all he has to do is pass ahead to dean and let dean lay it in or dribble to the corner running time out.
6) Instead of putting Ousmane on the inbounder he puts Keller in no man’s land guarding absolutely no one and gives them a free look to pass.

I feel like I've been paying for the 04 final four run ever since that loss. I want this program to get off the mat so badly.

Gonna take millions now. We are in the abyss. The cellar. The dungeon. The toilet. The apathy is at an all time high. Every win feels lucky and every loss feels expected.

That was a dagger. I knew there was almost no hope of making the NIT but that little hope is gone.

One this is certain, we will see history this year....either a low seed will win the Big 12 tourney or Lutz will lose his first ever conference tournament game. Not taking any bets on that one.

Horrible decision not to miss the second free throw. The point does nothing, you allowed them to set up a play. They had no time outs. That’s bad coaching by Lutz.
To be fair, Do you think he tried to miss and made it anyway? I’ve seen that happen.

Was that asked in post game presser?

Apparently Lutz confirmed yesterday they didn’t call for him to miss and planned to defend the inbounds. Sounds like he kinda heard the noise saying they botched the end of the game so seems he was pretty defensive in his response. Said if it had been 2 seconds they’d have missed the FT but with 3 they could get off a good shot. Probably 90% of coaches would beg to differ, and I bet if we see that scenario again it’s handled differently.

Coach, it’s an inbounds, running the base line. I’d take my chances with them rebounding a free throw and heaving up a half court shot vs allowing them to set up a play launch it down the floor where the clock doesn’t start until it’s touched. The odds are definitely better of getting off a good shot from the inbound play. Also didn’t defend the throw, which was mind boggling. I’d rather just hear, “ yeah we probably should have handled it differently”, than trying to justify bad coaching decisions and tell everyone else they are stupid and don’t know as much as you do. Not a great look for Lutz IMO. Probably good thing for him almost no one is paying attention.

TCU still fired off a 5% shot at the end of the game. I applaud Lutz for keeping them in the game. So he made a tactical mistake, the players have not quit on him at this point. It is going to be even more difficult for them as the remaining competition is going to be stiff. If Lutz is able to maintain morale while holding them somewhat accountable I think OSU can give Lutz a pass in regard to any errors fans point out. For me Lutz is a welcome change.

The shot wasn’t low percentage, pretty clean 3, maybe connecting on the pass but that’s the problem you gave them the opportunity for a clean look. Anyway, I’m not much into try hard, moral victories.
