OSU at SMU NIT|

IMO, first-year head coaches should always get a pass. This team was thrown together—Lutz had no time to recruit. He basically had no choice but to build a roster from, well, leftovers.

I'm excited to see if Lutz has the ability to resurrect a program buried in the deepest, darkest pits of an abyss, with no light to guide its way. Let's hope he can save this program.

I will admit that I'm a bit perplexed by the current recruiting class—two bigs who are not offensive threats and a shooting guard labeled a "sharpshooter."

It appears that Lutz is done recruiting high school players, meaning he's now focused on the transfer portal. Hopefully, he hits the jackpot.

And to be honest, regarding my first paragraph, head coaches and assistants are becoming irrelevant to recruits. It's all about the money. I can't stand what's happening to college basketball (and football). UNC head coach is right... He said coaches don't matter anymore. Recruits will chase the money and will be the deciding factor.
Ben Ahmed, one of our big man recruits, literally just set the scoring record at a big time prep, well established program. But he’s not a scorer by your assessment? Why don’t you consider him to be an offensive threat?

He seems to have changed Bryce. While he’s not an NBA player since mid conf play he has become a good college player that has finally forced teams to gameplan him. If he can do the same thing w Dean in the offseason and cut his turnovers, limit his penetration below the FT line (or find a way to make that penetration a threat) and improve his 3 pt % by 6-8 percentage points Dean will become a really good player. We’ve got to have success in the portal.

Hmmm.. Chi Chi plays and we have a losing season.
Chi Chi quits and we win two straight.

Just makes me wonder what if...
If SMU hadn’t been scorching from 3 for the first 25 minutes this wouldn’t have been close. When this team doesn’t force pace and actually executes they are a decent squad. I still wish we ran more through Ousmane but it is what it is.

Win 1 more and we’ve locked a 500 season at worst. I think more than anything that points to Lutz maybe being able to get us to a top half in the conference.

Not trying to knock an athlete but could tell from game 1 he was a “Me” player and not a “We” player. Just lots of selfish basketball from him.
