IMO, first-year head coaches should always get a pass. This team was thrown together—Lutz had no time to recruit. He basically had no choice but to build a roster from, well, leftovers.
I'm excited to see if Lutz has the ability to resurrect a program buried in the deepest, darkest pits of an abyss, with no light to guide its way. Let's hope he can save this program.
I will admit that I'm a bit perplexed by the current recruiting class—two bigs who are not offensive threats and a shooting guard labeled a "sharpshooter."
It appears that Lutz is done recruiting high school players, meaning he's now focused on the transfer portal. Hopefully, he hits the jackpot.
And to be honest, regarding my first paragraph, head coaches and assistants are becoming irrelevant to recruits. It's all about the money. I can't stand what's happening to college basketball (and football).
