ORU at OSU

lol here come the excuses. “Well we played a big double header on Sunday.”

My god it was a home double header and we didn’t have to travel. ORU played a series last weekend too.

Will Josh do post game radio tonight? He hustled up real quick on Sunday to make sure and be available but seems to not quite have the same availability when they lose....

On Smith’s groundout in the 9th, if he hadn’t watched the ball until it passed the pitcher’s mound before he started running to first, the next batter’s home run probably would have been a two run shot.

Just an illustration of how this team does not do the basic, fundamental things to be average, let alone good. I would be very interested to hear if a coach even mentions it.

When the season ends, there’s at least 3 guys that need to be told they need to find a new place. LaSalle, Culberson and Jones are not D1 baseball players and unfortunately they are all starting due to the injuries.

Josh:

"we didn't play well enough in any element"

"that's not the ideal formula, the execution has to be there."

"there's no need to dive into why those things elude you from time to time, you have to correct it."

"too many mistakes, too many moments where the execution of the game wasn't there."

"ORU played better and they deserved to win."

Rex: "no time to dwell on it, now its off to Arizona"

"that's how its been almost since day one. The stress of always having to overcome things."

"this is what I signed up for. The adversity has sped up the growth for some of us, and exposed us where we have to get better."

Blah blah blah

Blah blah blah is right

Lasalle and Culbertson's ABs are just so bad. Tom is saying what has always been one of my biggest criticisms of Josh's teams. The mental side of baseball is huge and Josh's teams rarely have shown much mental toughness and fortitude. Ironically, his first few teams back were probably the toughest teams he've had. Some of it is surely on the players but when we are looking at 10 years it seems of teams that are weak mentally you wonder how the mental game is being coached in the program.
Mentally weak=OVERCOACHED
If you ever talk to a former player, you will know exactly what I mean

Meola-ACL?
Ortiz-…?
Who else is hurt and what injuries. I really think these tanks Josh recruits try and bulk up like Matt Holliday to become specimens and their bodies cannot handle the daily stress and strains. Trying to pass the eye test for scouts and look MLB ready. Could be an explanation.
OSU baseball has not been a fun tough nosed program like it was. Guys like Roc and Donnie and Jordy haven’t existed in some time. The grinders, who cares how tall they are you just know they’re ball players and gonna make something happen. Maybe the staff needs a shake up?

One of my all-time favorites was a player that wasn’t 6’4”, didn’t hit a gazillion hr’s but could play any position on the field, steal a base when you needed it and a guy you wanted to make a clutch play or come up with a big hit. He was 5’9”, about 190 and hit the cover off the ball. I don’t think I ever saw him in a game where he wasn’t covered in dirt. A real grinder —Rusty McNamara. He was a ball player!
