Oklahoma is going backwards

Our state cares more about oil and gas than the people. Oil and gas can destroy the environment and if their destruction is too costly, oh well, the state lets them off the hook. Disgusting.

The guy who owns the leaking well also owns the company that the state (using federal funds that Trump of course halted) was paying to fix leaking wells and still they didn't fix it. Insane corruption.

And, he is in this other article making statements like this, while owning the well that is contaminating! Such hypocrisy:

The state agency hired Southern Plains Energy Services, based in Perry, to complete the plugging. The company is run by Rory Jett, who has worked in the oil and gas industry for decades.

“( I) kind of have a passion for it, actually, of trying to clean up these wells and to protect our environment and help the state clean up these farmers' land,” he said.

......
Rory Jett, who also owns oil and gas wells in Oklahoma, said the practice is essential to protecting the state’s environment.

“[Fluid from the well] could get into the creeks, into the lakes, they can affect the wildlife, the farmers' fields, the trees,” he said. “They can do a lot of damage if they're left abandoned, they've got that potential until they're plugged.”
I wonder why they didn’t contact the Department of Environmental Quality. As an oil operator and a land owner that has been impacted by oilfield pollution, I can’t understand why they didn’t contact an environmental attorney who would know what consulting firms to hire to do more thorough investigations than the state would do. If a lawsuit was filed and found in their favor, they could possibly have all these services paid for out of the proceeds of the lawsuit.

Easier to say in retrospect and with knowledge of the industry. If I was a homeowner and reported it to the state and they acted like they were doing their jobs, I would not know to go to yet a different state agency and I certainly would not decide to pay an attorney to make what I thought was happening happen.

Blame the victim?

I would suspect it is in litigation now.

I would hope they hired an attorney well versed in pollution cases. That’s what our regular attorney advised us to do.
