This is simply part of poor, low quality governing done under the dismal Oklahoma style or brand of conservative government. Former House Speaker Charles McCall, who is running for governor, boasts while legislator that the Oklahoma Legislature moved up to the 2nd most conservative in the country. Yet, look what he has to show for it. Next to nothing. For starters, Oklahoma education fell to 50th place.'Catastrophic cuts': Oklahoma Department of Mental Health to cancel $40M in contract items | KGOU - Oklahoma's NPR Source

It's bad. From Garnet to Yale on Admiral is a solid string of the most heartbreaking humanity you can imagine.I haven't. But I hear all the time how Minneapolis is a hellhole. It shouldn't be that surprising but its not. Im guessing Tulsa isn't as bad as you imagine right now.
Tulsa is bad. Really bad. I started working downtown in the early 90’s and it was ok. Now it’s just sad.I haven't. But I hear all the time how Minneapolis is a hellhole. It shouldn't be that surprising but its not. Im guessing Tulsa isn't as bad as you imagine right now.
There was a federal funding freeze placed on homeless shelters. If it remains in effect, homelessness in the streets will only get worse. I have enough compassion that I don't mind some of my federal tax dollars going toward helping homeless people. Too bad a number of Republicans don't feel that way. The Mission of Hope shelter is affected in Stillwater. I sure don't want to see another homeless person laying under a blanket in downtown Stillwater, like at the NW corner of 10th and Main. The same has happened before on the south side of the strip at 5th and Washington.Tulsa is bad. Really bad. I started working downtown in the early 90’s and it was ok. Now it’s just sad.
And it’s Tulsa’s fault. They allowed the county jail to be rebuilt on the NW side of downtown. They then followed this up building the bus station about 7 blocks directly south.
The Salvation Army and John 3:16 homeless ministries are just east of the jail.
There are tent camps all over downtown. People just lying on the sidewalk at all times of the day. I am no fan of Stitt but I am glad he is doing something. This problem has been there for years predating the new mayor and even Stitt. It’s not a D or R problem. It’s all of our problem.
Also this is a huge indictment against the Tulsa faith community.
I’m the same way. After reading my post I realize it might come across as insensitive to the situation. My reaction to Stitt’s actions are still mainly positive in that the discussion ball has to get rolling. There are safety issues not just for people visiting downtown Tulsa but also the homeless population. The solution has to start somewhere and the problem was/is getting worse. There was a federal funding freeze placed on homeless shelters.
