Oklahoma is going backwards

WELKER: Do you acknowledge that Vladimir Putin is responsible for starting the war in Ukraine?

MARKWAYNE MULLIN: I think what President Trump was meaning was we gave Zelenskyy multiple warnings that there needed to be negotiations before the war even started.

WELKER: Do you think the US should stay in NATO?

MARKWAYNE MULLIN: If it's in our interest ... Right now, NATO has not always been playing in our best interest. And when it's not in America's best interests anymore, then we should relook at things.

I´d like to think some of the GOP would wake up to all his BS, and lies, and stupid @$$ comments; boy, how ignorant am I?!
He simply came across as a strong-willed character of the type that Republicans want, a man who is at his greatest on cultural war issues. Anyway, his stupid political ads in the 2022 primary served as a warning what he'd be like. But women voted for him anyway, even though he made it clear in a TV ad he was pro-life with no exception. He would support a nationwide ban on abortion.

I thought it was the height of ridiculousness for him to endlessly run a TV ad about him being against boys playing in girls' sports in public schools. Oklahoma Legislature had already settled that issue by banning it. Maybe Mullin meant he would support doing it at the national level as senator. The ad reflected how he accurately reads Oklahomans as being much more concerned about cultural war issues than for education and a better economy. Oklahoma retired politician Vince Orza, looking good at around age 75, said on Flashpoint that Oklahoma in 1969 was rated no. 49 in education. So, Oklahoma's lack of concern for education goes back many decades. Much more recently voter refusal to go along with the late David Boren's plan to raise sales taxes by a penny for education proved things had not changed.

And people have voted for Mullin anyway after saying he would term limit himself and didn't. I think we'll all watch him become a very old man as he keeps winning senate elections. Like with late Sen. Inhofe, it will be up to Mullin to decide when to retire, not the voters.

Orza described today's politics with one word, "filthy". He doesn't understand how politicians get by with their filth.

Mark won cuz he ran in Oklahoma...where republicans vs. democrat voters are 2 to 1...he won with slightly less than 2 to 1 margin...so I´m not surprised at all why gop women would vote for him(cuz we live in freakin´ oklahoma)...would like to see the breakdown of gender though...

Oklahoma politics have been filthy for decades, going back to Alfalfa Bill Murray in the 30’s if not earlier. Surely Vince isn’t that naive. Since 1969, Democrats and Republicans have each spent 28 years in the governor’s mansion, so let’s not act like the Republicans are the sole problem. As I recall, horse racing, the lottery, and the casinos were supposed to provide a huge boost to education funding, but apparently that hasn’t happened.

It did, but the those things are a larger share of education revenues due to tax cuts from the last 12+ years.

It proves my point that Oklahomans are far more concerned about electing politicians to pay far more attention to cultural war issues than providing adequate funding for education. That Orza views today's politics as "filthy" says a lot considering what he has seen in the past.

As I have pointed out before some people have said education in Oklahoma has gone downhill considerably since 2011 when it was rated #17 and Republicans had not yet taken over. But go to a different source, like CNBC, and it rated Oklahoma #40 in 2011. One can't find anywhere that Oklahoma doesn't rank somewhere in the 40s in education now. In 2025 for consolation Gov. Stitt had to resort to pointing out that Oklahoma ranked high for school choice.

I'm not a fan of this ability to arrest ANYONE they SUSPECT is undocumented. No Warrant, they just suspect is undocumented so they can arrest anyone they want and just claim they think they are here illegally......ANYONE..

1,3 4 & 5 on this list. So Be it. #2 gives the Officers WAY too much power to abuse and Innocent US Citizens will be harassed and improperly targeted by LEO in Oklahoma because of #2

Stitt Provides new Powers to State of Oklahoma Officers to work directly with ICE to target Illegals in Oklahoma

Who will be enforcing this?

Under these new agreements between the State of Oklahoma and ICE though, specially trained state officers will now have the power to question, arrest, and immediately flag someone's immigration status.

State officers will undertake rigorous federal training before joining the task force, and will operate under ICE supervision to enforce these laws.

What kind of power will these officers have under the agreement?

The agreement expands the power of state law enforcement in a number of ways:

  1. Interrogate individuals about their immigration status
  2. Arrest suspected undocumented individuals without a warrant - if they’re deemed a flight risk
  3. Execute immigration-related arrest warrants
  4. Issue ICE detainers
  5. Transfer individuals to ICE custody
Tipton says this will keep undocumented criminals from cycling through the system and disappearing.

"Now there's going to be a method to remove them from the state and remove them from the country, and the cooperation with the federal government helps us identify who they even are," Tipton said. "Because there's potentially millions of them, even in the State of Oklahoma."

The Oklahoman opinion

Oklahoma taxpayers were sold a load of bull about parental choice tax credits | Opinion

There’s a terrible stench that smells a lot like bull excrement emanating from the halls of our state Capitol right now, and Republicans are hoping that Oklahomans plug their nose and pretend their highly touted voucher-like program doesn’t stink to high heaven.

What next? Private schools fill up from the ceiling on vouchers lifted to unlimited. Therefore, no more school choice. So, wouldn't be surprised if Republicans gladly appropriate millions of taxpayer dollars to give to private schools to expand.

Yet, the senator doesn't want to pass a bill outlawing sales of mixed fabrics in Oklahoma because the bible says it's wrong. Nevertheless, he would probably strongly support changing to a theocracy based on the laws and customs of the Old Testament. But where is donkey milk referred to in the Old Testament?

GOP Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma: “I’ve not heard anybody say they didn’t want to cut anything, it’s just they don’t like Elon.”

House Republicans unfazed by protests: ‘We’re moving forward with the cuts’
Many GOP lawmakers insisted their constituents back Musk’s moves.
Most Republicans simply want to wean everybody off of government, especially including poor people. With what's left I won't be surprised that it will be hard to deal with something as unhuman as AI and robots, while Musk becomes the world's first trillionaire off of it.

Many Republicans feel the poor should have their needs met by asking help from friends, relatives, chruchs, chairities and public pantries. Certainly not government programs. But was surprised that some Republicans seem to favor a basic income in response to AI and robots doing most jobs in the future.
