OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

It appears that Grantham has a lot of success in his 1st two years at a new place and then falls off after that. Luckily, that's exactly what we need from him.

I would imagine the DC from Charlotte would be his DC in training to take over for him after a year or two if things go well.

I was just about to say, this is probably the plan. Grantham is 58yrs old is still active and motivated but will want an exit plan as he gets closer to retirement.

Here are the total defense rankings for the years BEFORE he came in as DC, then his 1st year as DC, and how many returning starters he had and many players they lost to the NFL.

UF 69th to 20th (7 ret. starters, 3 to NFL)
MSU 93rd to 27th (6 ret. starters, 0 to NFL)
UL 2nd to 25th (5 ret. starters, 3 to NFL)
UGA 63rd to 36th (6 ret. starters, 5 to NFL)

I feel like for the most part this is encouraging. I understand the year 3 and year 4 concerns but I’m skeptical we have to worry about that in our situation.

Good info. Hopefully it's pointing to something special in our near future.

More likely picking up Norm Chow from his retirement village.

"Most of those fired him." After which season posted above did he get fired?

My comments about coaches usually is followed by what I disagree with or didn't work, your comment was "he sucks."

The coaches I've criticized were performing much worse than the one we just hired.

Grantham was outright fired by the Browns and Florida. While he technically left UGA for Louisville, his departure was celebrated in Athens.

He's a good NFL d-line coach. He's a horrible college football defensive coordinator. Look at the talent that he had at UGA, and then look at the results

Like it or not, he's a Poke now. I'm hoping he's got one more of those turnarounds in him.

I gues time will tell. The data shows that he's been above average most of his career.

Belichick was fired by the Browns
Pete Carroll was a total mess as HC of the Patriots

Sometimes decent/good/great coaches are in really dysfunctional situations and it ain't gonna work no matter who it is. Other than this year, the situation at OSU is nowhere near dysfunctional. I'll ride with the guy assuming we'll get at or close to his positive results until proven otherwise. Ready for an improvement, and I expect that won't be too tall of a task (only one way to go from here!)
