Most Forgotten Cowboys

Another Terry Miller - taking it to the house against the Goons
Terry Miller holds a special place in my heart.

My very first college football game, my first Oklahoma State game, was against Missouri in 1976. Miller rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns and made a lifelong Cowboys fan out of 15 year old Rx. Terry Miller was all I could talk about or think about after that game.

31-24, baby! You'd be surprised how often that score comes up in other games. And every time it does, I say to whomever is in range: "Ah, same score as Bedlam 1976." I had gone home for the weekend and my older brother had me out running around town with him. He didn't really care much about the game, but I had told him I wanted to be home before it started. Naturally we were late, but I had the game on the car radio. As I hopped out of his car before it completely stopped I heard Bob Barry say "3rd down and 2 for the Cowboys at their own 28." As I ran into the house and flopped down on the couch the TV announcer (Keith Jackson?) shouted "he could go all the way!" I knew then we had a chance to win it, because I trusted Philip Dokes and Duck White to keep the goons in range. It remained my favorite Cowboy win until 2011 Bedlam. That'll be a hard one to top.
