ICE

@Rob B. I think you got outfoxed here.

Yeah. Instead of treating people like animals let's use an example of a political stunt which ended up in people being treated humanely because you completely missed the point of the issue.

He should start talking about how taking over Greenland is a good thing because we would cause less loss of life doing so than what the Vikings did in Europe in the middle ages. Or how Jim Crow laws were a good thing because they resulted in the civil rights movement.

That was the whole irony of the right shipping migrants to left leaning cities. The right tried to treat those people as political footballs and those cities took those people in and supported them to the best of their ability. I live in one of the cities that Gov Abbot was busing (not bussing mind you) migrants in from his state and that was what happened here.

Now the right is going into the same communities it bused those people too trying to put them into concentration camps and deport them saying we are harboring migrants. No joke, you shipped them to US! And we gladly took them into our communities and want them to stay.

Hatred and xenophobia makes people incredibly stupid.

Absolutely fitting that you ignore the hypocrisy.
Careful when you talk about the Due Process part

Expedited removal is not an exception to due process

The 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act established the expedited removal process, which allows immigration officials to quickly deport certain people without a court case and with limited appeal opportunities. The act was part of an omnibus spending bill and it passed with bipartisan support in the House and the Senate.

Under this bill 1996 bill passed by CONGRESS
Illegals apprehended at a "Port Of Entry" OR Illegals with Criminal History "ANYWHERE" in the US who could NOT prove they had been in the US for more than 24 consecutive months ...then DHS was provided an Option (NOT REQUIRED) to deport them without any Due Process

Then in 2004 the Bush Administration issued DHS Policy 69 FR 48877 to the Federal Registrar that expanded DHS authority to the Following

Illegals captured within the US could be deported without a court case if they
Are Unable to Prove they have continuous presence in the US for MORE than 14 days
AND
Were captured within 100 Nautical Air Miles from any US Border
AND
Lacked Proper Documentation or Used Fraudulent Methods to obtain documentation.

If these conditions were met the Person could be Deported immediately without Due Process. This Border zone of 100 Miles covers 2/3rds of the entire Population or 200+ MILLION US Citizens to this day.

Obama used these 2004 Bush Admin rules and wielded this power with great efficiently and Deported more Illegal Aliens from the US ...More than ANY POTUS BEFORE OR AFTER HIM...and Obama's Admin never requested or issued a Rule Change.

Then in 2019 Trump removed the 2004 Bush Admin 100 mile + 14 day Rule and issued a new DHS Rule via Federal Register policy notice (84 FR 35409. Trump's DHS now had regulatory Rule to remove any Illegal captured ANYWHERE in the US who could NOT prove they had been in the US for at least 2 Consecutive Years

In 2022 the Biden DHS rescinded the Trump DHS Rule and restored the 2004 Bush Admin DHS Policy of
apprehended within 100 miles of the border, and
• present in the U.S. for less than 14 days

On Jan 20th 2025 Trump DHS issued a Federal Register Notice to Remove the 100 MILE border Limit Rule AND Restore
it to nationwide AND restored the 2 YEAR Rule.

So as it stands right Now. Trump's expedited Removal DHS Regulation states that ICE can remove and Deport any illegal apprehended anywhere in the country who CAN NOT PROVE they have been in the United States for 24 Consecutive Months can be deported without a Trial or seeing a Judge....IE without Due Process

There were means in place to deport ANY of those illegals who were sent to Martha's Vineyard in 2022 without seeing a Judge if they fell into the confines of the 2004 Bush DHS Policy. And as already pointed out..they weren't deported, they were just moved.

The argument today is that TRUMP isn't following his OWN rules with the 2 YEAR Part....They are detaining and deporting Immigrants with NO DUE PROCESS regardless of how long they have been here.

BY LAW as written RIGHT NOW. Any Illegal caught in the US who can prove they have been in the US for more than 24 Consecutive months MUST BE PROVIDED DUE PROCESS.......ICE and TRUMP are IGNORING this and breaking the law every time they do.

Im not a fan of calling people illegals.

That said, when there is no due process and people are imprisoned, that is the textbook definition of a concentration camp. I do not use those words as hyperbole, but as what they mean in an academic sense. Trump, DHS and ICE are running a system of concentration camps. They are imprisoning and deporting people without due process.

The irony is there were zero protests over this. So what changed?

I don't live there, so I could not tell you. What I will say is that the national consciousnesses of what ICE was up to was less in May of 2025 than it is now. If they tried that now, there would likely be protests.

You are really grasping at straws here. Why?

EDIT: turns out there were protests. Why double down when you are clearly wrong?

The irony is there were zero protests over this. So what changed?

so now your talking about the May 2025 ICE activities in Martha's Vineyard and You're completely wrong They did Prostet ICE last year in Martha's Vineyard

Documented Protest Activity (May 27–30, 2025)

1. Islanders gathered in public to confront, watch, film, and challenge ICE actions

  • WBUR reported that resident Charlie Giordano confronted ICE agents directly, filming them, and described taking action because he felt he “couldn’t stand idle.”

He received messages of support from the local Brazilian community — indicating organized social pushback. [wbur.org]

2. Islanders “swarmed” scenes of arrests

  • The Martha’s Vineyard Times reported that Islanders swarmed a parked work van in Oak Bluffs after two workers were taken by federal agents — a spontaneous collective action resembling a protest crowd.

3. Public signaling to others — signs held up warning about ICE

  • The same article documents a local resident holding up a sign reading “ICE is on the Island” to warn others arriving or departing at the ferry terminal.

This is direct protest signaling. [mvtimes.com]

4. Widespread community mobilization, public warnings, and political pressure

  • Residents actively monitored, shared videos, gathered at arrest locations, and expressed opposition. WBUR described locals challenging ICE on‑site and viewing the presence as “paramilitary” or “secret police.”
    [wbur.org]
  • Public officials were pressured by community members to demand due process for detainees.

5. National reactions via social media and local organization

  • The Vineyard Gazette and CAPWOLF both reported that the operations “sparked fear and debate,” prompting collective community responses.

AI Overview

The main differences between immigration deportations under Barack Obama and Donald Trump lie in their stated priorities, the use of interior enforcement versus border removals, and the overall rhetoric surrounding immigration. While the Obama administration recorded a higher total number of removals (often dubbed "deporter-in-chief" by advocates), the Trump administration focused more on interior arrests, increased the deportation of non-criminals, and actively pursued more restrictive policies, including family separations
.

1. Total Volume and Methodology
  • Obama Administration: Over two terms (8 years), the Obama administration logged more than 3.1 million formal ICE removals, peaking in 2012 with over 400,000 deportations. Including "returns" at the border, the total reached over 5 million.
  • Trump Administration (First Term): In his first term (4 years), the Trump administration recorded approximately 1.2 million formal removals.
  • Key Difference: While Obama had a higher total, his numbers were heavily weighted toward border "returns" (people caught at the border and sent back). Trump’s administration focused more on interior enforcement (arresting people already living inside the U.S.).

2. Enforcement Priorities and Targets
  • Obama: In his second term, Obama implemented a policy of "prosecutorial discretion," prioritizing the removal of individuals with criminal convictions and serious crimes (over 90% of interior removals in 2016 were of convicted criminals).
  • Trump: Trump's policy broadened the definition of priorities, making virtually all undocumented immigrants eligible for removal. While focusing on "criminal aliens," the administration also significantly increased the deportation of individuals with no criminal convictions.

3. Interior vs. Border Enforcement
  • Obama: Relied heavily on the Secure Communities program (later replaced by PEP), which utilized local law enforcement to identify undocumented immigrants in jails. However, as noted, many deportations occurred at the border.
  • Trump: Shifted strategy to increase arrests inside the U.S. community, reducing reliance on local law enforcement in "sanctuary" jurisdictions and increasing direct arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

4. Policies and Legal Changes
  • Obama: Introduced DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and the I-601A waiver program, which provided legal protection to some undocumented immigrants.
  • Trump: Actively worked to dismantle DACA and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of people. Trump also implemented the "Zero Tolerance" policy that led to family separations.
