Show me one post where I said illegal immigrants that are criminals are being persecuted. Steross posted a video this morning that showed ICE agents at the home of a black family where a young black man was being detained and the family was wanting to see the warrant. If ICE conducted themselves to the letter of the law and that young man was not a US citizen but instead an illegal or legal resident and had committed a crime then detain him properly and civilly, charge him if new charges are warranted, and treat him in accordance with established US law.
I have consistently maintained that immigration is broken and the system needs a permanent congressional solution. The border needs to be secured by congressional authorization and appropriation.
What is happening, and the Trump admin went to court to allow, is racial profiling of anyone of color. There is video after video of this happening and it’s not effing ok. We don’t treat people this way. You might think it’s ok today and people are getting what they deserved if they just comply, but you are wrong bc one day politics will shift and I don’t want my kids or grand kids growing up in this mess.
I might be wrong for thinking this way but I don’t think either Babbit or Good got what they deserved. I actually feel for the agent that shot Good. I don’t think in the 30 seconds leading up to the trigger pull (heck even the 5 seconds leading up to it) he thought “I’m taking someone out.”
One person is to blame for all of this and I wish we could go just one damn day without him screwing up lives. It’s just nauseating. There are people who struggle every day just to keep their kids fed and warm and he does not care. And the Congress and cabinet that just sit on their hands w their mouths shut they don’t care. And if you think any of it or that someone got what they deserved or if they would have just complied is ok then you’ve shown me who you are. Doesn’t matter if we root for the same team on a sports basis, bc while sports are fun and probably my golden calf, they don’t make up for how people get treated.
