Head Coach Steve Lutz

Yeah, he was a goon for few years. But he's a pretty good guy.
Don't recall the source but it was said - Kelvin AKA in boomer land as "Calvin", they just don't know second grade pronunciation, visited Eddie, late in Eddie's life and came out of the visit with wet eyes. Kelvin is a human being. Let's all join that group.

I can’t bring myself to like Sampson. He wasn’t just a Sooner, he was also dirty as they came. He was caught cheating multiple times. And when he got caught he did everything except accept responsibilities. I know most of what he did would now be considered legal, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a repeat offender and we suffered the consequences. I’m all for people changing and becoming better versions of themselves, but in my experiences, people don’t really change when it comes to mindsets like that. I’d bet his staff is doing dirty things to get players. So for all that, I’ll be rooting for Florida tonight. If Houston wins I understand it’s good for the Big 12, just wish it wasn’t Sampson being the one to lift a trophy.

I love Coach Sampson's coaching style and team basketball mentality. He is one of the last coaches that demand defense accountability and see the players actually respond. I'm rooting for Houston tonight. They're tough and hard nose just like OSU use to be under Coach Sutton.

Like some of you, my opinion of him changed after meeting him. I met him few years ago sitting on press row at the OK state championship games in Norman. He treated me with respect and was friendly. I came home that night with a different view of him.

BTW...all programs bend the rules to their advantage. OSU is no different.

There's dirty and then there's dirty. He texted and called recruits outside NCAA guidelines. His biggest crime: he lied about it. He paid the price. He was out of college basketball for five years, and the pro teams he worked for didn't care. He came back and literally built that Houston program, facilities and all. So he made his mistakes, as we all do, and he's doing things right now. ("I bet" is not evidence of anything.)

My favorite Kelvin memory was him going crazy after Victor Williams hit the go ahead bank shot clearly after the shot clock had expired but it was still counted good. He was flailing those arms and his denim sleeves all over the place.

But, Go Coogs!

I like the way his teams play and how he has built his team. He has used to transfer portal effectively bringing in Cryer, Uzan, and Wilson over the last 3 years but not extensively. All the other players that have played major minutes this year were recruited and developed under his staff. I'm sure it helps a lot having a tournament team ever season and some deep NIL pockets. But in this era of yearly roster turnover, I'm sure the Houston fans enjoy having familiar names and faces on the court each season.

They do a good job with that. I feel like if OSU and Lutz (and Gundy) want to see how to build long-term success, they could do a lot worse than using Houston's model. Kelvin hustled his butt off to find the money to upgrade the facilities and get them where they are today.

The basketball and football program had the Billionaire Fertitta put a lot of money into both programs, much like Boone Pickens did for us and it has paid off for them in basketball! Their facility for basketball is the Fertitta Center!!!
