Deadlam

Just to be honest, I currently dislike Baylor and Iowa State. Of the new teams from this year or next, I could easily dislike Arizona, and Utah.

Dislike is one thing, disdain, hatred, thoroughly enjoying anything bad that happens to them...that's special. That's reserved for a real rival.

bedlam was the most viewed game osu played in this year, by far. it's a nationally relevant game that people watch. that's true for them most years. and moving forward sure they'll have some good ones, if deion is still at colorado and they are ranked, that will get views. so will utah, if they stay good. but a big part of that is the newness of those teams. the other new teams are just plain bad right now, so that wont move the needle much. nobody is clamoring for cinci, houston, ucf or really even byu at the time.

I agree, that it's a net negative for the state, and CFB as a whole. Certainly when you lose 90% of the time it's not a net negative to skip a nearly guaranteed L every year. But it is the one game most osu fans most look forward to whether they admit it or not. and as i have said many times, rivalries are the best aspect of this sport and osu lost the only one they have.
I wouldn't say most OSU fans love Bedlam or look forward to it. Most years they probably assume its an L, and many (my wife included) won't even watch it anymore. Those people miss the awesome moments like the Tyreek punt return or this last one, but I can understand why they don't like to risk the emotional investment.

I don't think we'll develop a bitter rival near the level of what Bedlam is, but I do think we'll have heated battles with conference opponents in the new Big 12. It won't be the same, but it doesn't need to be. Things change. We'll move on.

Interesting, indeed. I'm sure they believe that SEC $$$ and exposure could enhance their standing with recruits (which could be true) and bring in better talent. But.....would such recruits enjoy going to a mediocre SEC team in a location like Norman? I doubt it, at least while Venables is there. I think they'll end up like Texas A&M.

The only reason I'll care is because I work with a bunch of uo grads and live in an area that requires me to do grocery shopping in Norman . I can't escape knowing about their existence.
Venables is about to close out his 3rd consecutive top 10 class. neither riley nor Stoops did that. Seems to me that blue chip talent is buying what he has to say. And that's extra meaningful coming off a 6-7 season. it must mean he can recruit and sell his vision which is impressive before showing proof of concept.

He'll do less with more than anyone in the sec.
