I know it's not breaking news or anything, but the level of greed and drive to tilt the playing field by the SEC and B1G is truly sickening.
So the big ten, one of if not the worst top-to-bottom conferences in college football, gets an automatic bye? Lol yep it's all about money and brand recognition. Wish we could play illinois, indiana, purdue, nebraska, northwestern, minnesota, and rutgers every week and have that pathetic weak schedule ignored by the media.

Gundy's gotten quoted on this in a number of places the last few days and he's right: what they're proposing is simply not done anywhere in sports. Sonny Dykes took it further and said 'yeah, give Dallas a bye because they've got the most fans.'

Both guys are spot on here. I think it's simply those two conferences pushing as much as they can to get what they want and if they don't get it, get prepared for more noise about them breaking off on their own.

I've spent time lately with friends who are Texas and Iowa alums. The UT fan thinks it's all the greatest thing in the world, of course. The Iowa fan is conflicted and even though the Hawkeyes are part of the mix, he's really conflicted about it.

Iowa is without a doubt on the chopping block of "unequal revenue share" they just don't know it yet. Oregon, Washington, tOSU, Michigan and Penn State will start that drumbeat within 18 months. Same is going to happen in SEC.

No one outside of about 8-12 total schools should be cheering any of this. And even then, those 12 haven't grasped how much there about to lose over their short sighted greed.

The “blue bloods” need to realize that they are just killing the golden goose, they are also killing the silver goose, bronze goose and the whole population. When this is done the university system will only have itself to blame

They carry the water for the sport in general, they make the most money, send the most players to the nfl. it only makes sense

Let's say Iowa wins the B1G championship game at 9-4 and Missouri does the same in the SEC. Those would be the top 2 seeds?

When the real water carriers want the lion share it's going to suck for the teams outside the top 20 in viewership

You look at it from a different perspective than most of us. This all started when ESPN pushed the narrative forever that the SEC was the best conference. They were on tv more so they got the most money. Greed and corruption went unpunished. Fox countered by doing the something similar with the Big 10. Because networks pushed those two conferences, they got more money and corruption was largely ignored. The rich got rich and the hell with everyone else. Then what used to be corruption became allowed. That is what brought us to where we are today. Now with the playoff expanding and talk of finally including almost every team in one way or another, those two conferences want an easier path to the title. Why should they get that? Let them earn it on the field. Equal rules for everyone.

NIL is a product of the courts recognizing the rights of the athletes. Why should an art history major be able to transfer schools, but an athlete can't? The rules against both of those was downright un-American.

The SEC and Big 10 generate more eyes than the other conferences. How is it corrupt that they got more money? In the AP era, they've also won six more football national championships than the remaining conferences and independents combined. They are the two best football conferences. If you just look at this century, the SEC is clearly the most dominant.

In the AP era:

  • SEC (est. 1932): 30 championships
  • Big Ten (est. 1896): 25 championships
  • ACC (est. 1953): 15 championships
  • Big 12 (est. 1994): 12 championships
  • FBS Independent (est. 1978): 12 championships
  • Pac-12 (est. 1915): 10 championships

What I posted is an explanation of how it got to that point. What was football history like prior to ESPN pushing their agenda about the SEC being great.

By any way you want to look at the stats the SEC and Big10 have dominated college football throughout all eras of its history.

One can not like the facts all they want, but that doesn't change them.

The reason this doesn't hold up is the same reason pro sports have revenue sharing. If you have a handful of teams with a competetive advantage you will limit the amount of viewers interested in the sport. Futhermore both conferences want to scale the revenue in their conference. Pro football has already figured this out maybe semi pro football thinks they can reinvent the wheel.

I'm not saying I like it or I think it is good.

Facts also show every single blueblood program has their 10-15 year dry spell too. Happy to list those for you.

You don't even have to go back 20 years to see 5 Big 12 South teams ranked at the same time, so yeah, times change and things don't stay the same forever, unless you tilt the field further in favor of programs who already own a distinct advantage.
