American Healthcare continues to go backward

This is a perfect example of what @KK10 was talking about earlier.

She had an ectopic pregnancy. It doesn't matter how you feel about abortion-that isn't it. The fetus isn't viable and the mother's life is in serious danger if it isn't removed. Based on the article the drug she was given is used for this, but is also used in abortion procedures so its use is questionable in some states (including Florida) and doctors are understandably hesitant to use it. This could have been an opportunity for learning. A female pro life politician who experienced an ectopic pregnancy could have gone back to her caucus and said we need to fix this. It should get bipartisan support-no matter your party doing something to save lives is something we should all agree on.

But no, pro choice advocates (allegedly-didn't see a quote she was referencing in the article) use her experience to troll her. And she doubles down blaming the opposition party because that's what passes for political discourse now.

Guessing nothing will change with the Florida law, no one will learn their lesson, and a few pregnant women will die because of it. This is a stupidly wasted opportunity for bipartisanship.

I’ve said before that I think our politics is in a death spiral and that there is no way out. It looks like the spiral is accelerating.

VEASEY: You've credited the 12 steps in your recovery. What's step 4?

RFK JR: Making a fearless inventory

VEASEY: Of ourselves. Do you remember step 12?

RFK JR: We try to help other addicts

VEASEY: Does cutting off treatment from people still suffering align with step 4 or step 12?

Rep. Carter: How could you possibly justify the termination of HIV vaccine studies?

RFK Jr.: Every year Congress pours money into it and every year it accomplishes nothing

Rep. Carter: These NIH dollars save lives

RFK Jr.: Show me one life

Rep. Carter: I can show you a lot of lives. I'm insulted that you suggest there aren't lives that have been lost from HIV

Rep. Barragán: The budget you proposed is going to cut $1.7 billion from the main federal agency that supports Alzheimer's research

RFK Jr.: I can tell you that we have not cut any clinical trials on Alzheimer's

Rep. Barragán: There were 35 and you guys have already cut 13 of them. The funding this was congressionally approved on a bipartisan basis

RFK JR.: I don't know that what you're saying is true

AOC: Are you aware that President Trump's DOJ is investigating United Health Care for criminal insurance fraud?

RFK JR: I am not aware of that investigation

AOC: You are not aware that the Trump DOJ is investigating the largest insurance company in America for fraud in Medicare Advantage?

Rep. FrankPallone: You have made a number of major decisions about vaccines. You say you want transparency, but there's been no public process for any of this

RFK Jr.: We have a public process on vaccines, it's called the ACIP committee

Rep. Pallone: You fired the committee

Only partly true, from ChatGPT:

Here’s a clear update on what’s happening with the ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices):

🧭 What happened?
  • On June 9, 2025, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. abruptly dismissed all 17 existing members of ACIP, citing concerns over conflicts of interest and what he called a “rubber‑stamp” culture in vaccine oversight .
  • He replaced them with just eight new appointees, including some individuals reputed to be vaccine skeptics or with limited expertise in immunology or vaccinology
Why it matters
  • ACIP’s role: It advises the CDC on vaccine recommendations, which directly influences insurance coverage, school entry requirements, and national immunization schedules .
  • Impact on public health: Critics—including former committee members—say the move undermines public trust, threatens vaccination rates, and risks rising outbreaks of preventable diseases .
What’s next?
  • The new ACIP is meeting June 25–26, 2025, focusing on topics like flu vaccines (including thimerosal), RSV, and HPV—but notably excluding COVID‑19 vaccine recommendations .
  • Many public health experts argue this marks a shift away from evidence‑driven fact‑based input toward a more politicized, less transparent process .
  • Groups like CIDRAP are now forming separate independent advisory panels in response, aiming to preserve impartial, expert guidance for U.S. vaccine policy .
Bottom line

Kennedy’s overhaul of ACIP is an unprecedented shake-up of the nation’s primary vaccine advisory board. While intended, he says, to restore public confidence by removing perceived conflicts, many experts warn it dismantles a long-standing, science-based foundation, replacing it with a less proven, more ideologically aligned group. This change has already prompted resignations from top CDC scientists and sparked bipartisan concern from medical organizations. The long-term impacts on vaccine policy, public trust, and prevention of disease outbreaks remain uncertain.

It’s still pretty effed up. Pretty much the worst fears about RFKJr and HHS are coming true. He is the absolute worst member of the administration. And, just as a reminder, he was a Democrat yesterday.

I think she was making the point that HHS Director knew nothing about one of the nation’s largest healthcare organizations was under investigation for Medicare fraud more than she was defending United Healthcare.

It is pretty astounding

That's a bunch of bs. Regardless of what you think of the guy, in the rooms he is Robert, addict. Nothing more nothing less. To use his recovery for a political attack is disgraceful and shows a complete lack of understanding of what 12 step programs are and what they do.

In the clip she wasn't. The gist was if the Trump administration is all in on government waste and are investigating one of the largest for profit insurance companies for fraud, why are they allocatiolng an extra 25 billion in government payments to that industry next year? The clip cut off before he responded to that comment.

What kind of wearable? Are we talking fitness watches for everyone? And if so where does that data go? Do individual health insurance rates go up if we don't get enough steps in? Or is it his goal that we make a national effort to improve health to the point that everyone is watching what they eat and how much they exercise.

The latter is noble but if that is the case there would have to be a national restructuring of how certain foods are available and affordable. Its one thing to say we should all be on a high fiber low processed food diet. Its another when a large portion of the nation is choosing a $1.25 box of box of spaghetti and a $2 jar of ragu for dinner because healthier options are gonna cost 5 times as much and take twice as long to prepare. People dont eat canned fruits and vegetables because they taste better than the fresh stuff. Its because things canned and packed with preservatives are cheaper and they don't have to worry about something like fresh strawberries spoiling 3 days after it is purchased.
