Elon Musk backs Warren Buffett’s proposal to ‘end the deficit in 5 minutes’ as the bold idea gains steam again

” Buffett told CNBC in an interview. “You just pass a law that says that any time there's a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.”

The only (obvious) problem with that is that law will never be passed by a self-interested Congress.

Also, it might be unconstitutional because the only qualifications for Congressional Office are set within the Constitution. This would be similar to term limit legislation and the Supreme Court has ruled that States cannot enforce term limits on their federal Congressional representatives because the U.S. Constitution controls.

Would probably take a Constitutional Amendment.

why? Ending Birthright Citizenship didn't

If Trump can end that without an Amendment, why couldn't a different POTUS just do this without an Amendment ?

Birthright Citizenship hasn't been ended. That fight is not over. The Supreme Court hasn't ruled on the merits of that argument.

A different POTUS couldn’t just do this without an Amendment because the very first part of the proposition is "just pass a law". The Executive branch doesn't pass laws, particularly with regards to the qualifications of office for Congress.

And I did say "probably".....not "definitely".
