Both of OSU wrestlers were underdogs and pulled off impressive upsets. And neither win was a fluke, if the OSU guys were to wrestle same guys later this season, smarrt money would be on Casey and Zach (not sure who would even take Smith against Zach after drubbing he took).
For Casey Swderski, the top guy at 149 from VT is taking a redshirt. McNeil, who Casey beat, was ranked #2 by Intermat and Casey is ranked #5. Big win. So one could argue Casey is a title threat.
Zach"s win is even more impressive. Smith, who he beat is ranked #4 by Intermat. Zach Ryder was ranked #7. To beat him by 10 points puts everyone on notice. I think this puts Zach in top 4 in weigh class, with McEnelly from Minn who finished 3rd last year, Welsh from PSU who finished 2nd at 174 in 2024, and Farrari from Iowa who beat Plott in dual match. I would not bet rent money against Zach facing any of those guys.
