2026 Football Schedule

I think we win at least 6. Basically because I think North texas team from 2025 could win 6 and we will be better than that. So we should win Tulsa, Murray State, WVU, UCF, Colorado, and Iowa State.

Next tier, KU, KSU, Houston, and ASU. Winnable, but likely we split.

Last tier, for those drinking Kool Aid, Oregon and Tech. Hope springs eternal.

I'm going to be honest--the level of optimism I have is getting pretty high.

We're going to have a GREAT OFFENSE next year. On its own, it will keep us in most (maybe not Oregon) games. The defense, I'm not sure about...but they have brought in some talent at spots. Can they force some turnovers? Be aggressive? At miminum, the team will be much more fun to watch.

I have cautious optimism. I think 8-4 is very doable, but any better is going to be contingent on our defense.

However, I'm concerned about HCEM's record in big games. He didn't beat a single ranked team at UNT and the loses were pretty bad. Hopefully that's not a pattern, but we'll see.

But you've got to consider that UNT hasn't been ranked in 60 years until this past season, so going up against ranked teams (assuming mainly P4 and/or upper-tier G5 teams) is still a tall order for a new/young program that's never had much success. Give him some higher level talent and let's see what he can do.

If we lose to ksu I'll eat a chocolate covered squ.....well, something, anyway. But I don't see us losing to them. Does that mean I'm predicting 9-3? Not necessarily. But maaaybeee.....

I will be happy to make a bowl game. Trying to not set my expectations too high. I certainly hope for greater return on investment than that and the ceiling is high. But 6 wins in the regular season after what we have endured the last 2 seasons would be very pleasant. If we manage to win more games than that as some are suggesting then that will make it even more enjoyable.

7-5 or 8-4

First impressions loss to Oregon, Tech and at Arizona St. and 1 or 2 more because they are college kids and stuff happens. .
