Freeman’s dad, Jason, played football at OU and coached HS football for a while. His grandfather was a very successful HS coach. Jason Freeman left the year before Heupel got to Norman, but I bet their paths have crossed a lot over the years. I have to believe that is a big reason for him going to Tennessee.

Freeman is a proven serviceable contributor on a good team, he’s just not a go to guy like he was kind of forced to be this year. If the Vols wanted to over pay for that type of player, good for them. Heupel has the Oklahoma connections so it makes sense to me.
