If it backfires by getting more Democrats and Independents out to vote for Harris, then good.
That's what I'm wondering. Back in 2016 I intended to vote for Gary Johnson because he was clearly the best candidate available. The weekend before the election my then wife and I visited her family. It's a drive through mostly rural Minnesota and at the time 2 of the 3 districts we drove through had democratic representatives. The sheer number of Trump signs I saw freaked me out and I held my nose and voted for Clinton.
This could have the same effect. There might be a bunch of voters out there planning on voting 3rd party or on the fence about showing up who see a "Trump surge" and decide screw that I don't want 4 more years of that idiot.
