US OPEN

The US Open starts today in Las Vegas and OSU has some guys going and some guys we would like to be our guys too. There are 3 main events we care about: Senior Nationals, U20 and U17. "Senior" Nationals is a precursor to making the World Team that will be wrestling for the US in September in Serbia. It's a little complicated to understand if you aren't used to it, but if you win the US Open, you have a chance to make it to FInal X, which is a best of 3 series with one other wrestler who qualifies through the World Team Trials OR is already sitting there based on prior placement at world events. Winner of final X is on the world team.

Here's the rundown of interesting guys for OSU that are wrestling in one of the tournaments:

Senior Nationals:

70 kg: Teague Travis
70 kg: Daniel Manibog
79 kg: Alex Dieringer (Called a "contender" to win and predicted to place 3rd by FLO)
86 kg: Dustin Plott (Called a "sleeper" to win by FLO) -
92 kg: Kyle Haas
125 kg: Derek White
125 kg: Shawn Streck (Cowboy Wrestling Club)

NOTABLE OMISSION: Daton Fix

U20:

57 kg: Troy Spratley ("Contender" and predicted to finish 2nd by FLO)
61 kg: Cael Hughes ("Contender" by FLO)
65 kg: Kael Voinovich ('Other name to watch" by FLO)
70 kg: Cutter Sheets ("Other name to watch")
70 kg: Jordan Williams ("Other name to watch")
86 kg: Brayden Thompson ("Contender" and predicted to finish 2nd)
86 kg: Benji Mower
86 kg: Dax Hughes
125 kg: Christian Carroll ("Contender" and predicted to win)
125 kg: Hayden Simpson

U17:

60 kg: Jax Forrest (Predicted to win)
71 kg: Ladarion Lockett (Predicted to win)

There are several other guys we would love to have at OSU in the future, but outside of Jax Forrest, I don't have a sense of who we might have a realistic chance with.

Some weird goings on for seniors. Daton Fix signed up late yesterday, which would have caused all kinds of chaos, but then posted a bit ago he is sick and can't go. Dustin Plott isn't in the brackets.

I think Plott is going to world team trials next month
