I think it goes to show that you can hire based on charisma and personality, but you still want someone that has had experience and success as a head coach. Coach Hoyt, although an unknown, checked all those boxes. There must be 8-12 men in the same boat as she was, just waiting for their chance like she was.

It helped that ADCW knew her and was able to look at the big picture about her tenure at UMKC. Her W-L record didn’t blow you away, but she accomplished a lot. It also helped that the bar wasn’t set very high when she came in.

Now, if she can figure out a way to beat KU.
