Who Should OSU Hire as Next Basketball Head Coach?

Missouri State has hired a coach, and it's not Ben McCollum, who had been rumored (not reported, tbh) to be the likely choice there.

So maybe MO State didn't offer him, or maybe he declined offer--waiting on OSU offer???
MSU hasn’t made the NCAA tournament since 1999 and hired a retread. It’s just not a good job. He has a better chance to make the jump from where he’s at which I think is his alma mater. MSU would probably set him back years having to work a miracle at a bad program. He’ll be p5 soon enough, maybe with us this year, or later. If he takes an interim step with a mid major it’ll be a better program and not to replace a fired coach but a successful coach who moved up and left some momentum behind. Drake might be a fit if he doesn’t get the OSU job.

My biggest wonder is if or how much he'd like to get back to Iowa. Drake would take him back there and in a good program maybe until the Iowa job comes open somewhere down the line? Or if he's looking to make the P5 jump now, I think we're a great fit. Given how his bio reads about culture, I bet Chad could sell the hell out of OSU and Stillwater to him.

Updated based on recent news. Also, lumped together by availability. I've removed guys that have already landed somewhere. Also, left off Will Wade under the assumption the admin wants nothing to do with the violations. As we can see, it's still a big list and only includes head coaches. The list gets massive if you include assistants. There is still plenty of time. Even if we make a hire by the end of next week, we are still able to hit the ground running when the portal opens. Sooner is better, but by next Friday is still enough.

If Chad wanted McCollum, they probably would have reached an agreement by now, so I'm assuming he's looking elsewhere. Apparently, a lot folks believe that OSU hiring a DII coach makes us look like we don't belong with the big boys. That's narrow thinking, in my view, but what are ya gonna do. There are still some really good candidates out there. Let's hope for the best!

Not necessarily. The norm for these kind of moves has become lightning fast, but not all of them are that way. Coming from a guy who moved more than once as a kid due to dad's job, these kinds of decisions aren't taken lightly amongst a family. McCollum's kids look to be the age where a move is a big deal. Theyre not so young like Ace was with Boynton he won't even remember the move. Nor are they old enough like Devries that they're moved out or soon to be moved out anyway.

No I don't have any inside sources on this. Just saying it could quite possibly be that we met/interviewed, took a day or two to compile an offer, are affording him the time he requests to weigh it with his family, now some back and forth negotiations and finalization is happening before its fully official. Won't know until an announcement happens but like you said, hopeful for the best!

It wouldn't be ideal but where they are now is only a 6 hour drive from Stillwater. They could leave their kids in school there if they choose. A lot to weigh for sure though.

MT Cowboy, you have a good description of what may well be transpiring now with whoever receives an OSU offer. As you point out, it's not likely to be a snap, instant decision by anyone who gets an offer.
And of course what does Chad do when he gets a counter-offer?
Not a straightforward deal. And for us fans, it demands more patience than many of us have.😵‍💫 Including me.

It's not a move clear across the country, but still it's far enough away to feel like an eternity. If all they know is living in that one same town, asking them to uproot and go somewhere new during their middle or high school years is likely the heaviest decision they've had to process thus far in life.

Eh, I went to 4 different middle schools 6-8 grade. I turned out fine. Well mostly fine.

Live look at me, you, and probably everyone else waiting for more morsels of news...

I still give my parents grief about not letting me finish High School at the same place they forced me to move when I was entering Middle School.

No internet in the mid 80's and international phone calls are $2/minute, so I pretty much lost contact with everyone from my old school.
