It would be cheaper to hire a private investigator to dig up some dirt on him and fire him for cause.

I agree, but added because the name came up in the thread. Would be a very disappointing hire.

Making the right hire is preferable to making a quick hire. I don't understand the angst over there being a hire yet especially with the tournament still underway.

Why is a moderator editing my post?I disagree. The Oklahoma State basketball program is a highly desirable job to people who know how hungry the fans are for a winner. Any program with a history of the highest success is capable of reaching it again. It will happen again in Stillwater with the right leadership.

Because you need more than 5 guys to be successful at basketball. 6, maybe if you’re in super good shape and you never foul anybody. 7, that’s tough because you really can’t practice and are still thin. 8 is about where the best teams play because those eight guys in some combination are always on the floor. 5 and a good coach isn’t enough.

You can have 1 superstar and 2 really good players, and then the rest good role players.
You can have 3 great players and the rest role players.
You can have four really good players and the rest role players.
With any of these combinations, you need a point guard and some size.
That's a winning formula in college. Our 2004 and 1995 teams that went to the Final Four are good examples.

All you have to do is get into the tournament and anything can happen. Look at the Final Four last year or better yet, look at 2021, the sea's parted and all we had ahead of us for a trip to the FF was a 12 an 8, and a (maybe) bit overrated 2. We have to have a coach who can get us into the tournament first and foremost, but it would also be nice to have one who could take advantage of opportunities like that when they happen.

My guess would be that this is his 11th season but only his first tournament appearance. I think he still probably deserves a look though.

Wish we could find a TJ Otzelberger ( yes I had to google it again) All he’s done is take ISU to the tourney three years in a row since he started.
So does him being at Iowa State as an assistant or the tutelage of Hoiberg or both the reason for his success?
Where are Eddie Sitton’s assistants? I know I’m exposing my Orange to not knowing this. Is Eddie’s “style” a recipe for success nowadays? I say yes. Because what I think I saw was a coach that took good players, very few with NBA talent, and made basketball TEAMS that played hard and seemed to relish and thrive the battlefield of the Big 12.
That said, I’m not sure the game occupies that space anymore.
