He flamed out pretty good at Minnesota after building the Zags up. Feels like a pass.

I kind of think so too. He cleaned up the program at Minnesota and had good seasons at Long Beach State. I think he'll land on his feet.
I'm still hoping for a Ben McCollum hire.
I would be very disappointed if we hire him. He had one good season 25 yrs ago.
Gottlieb can suck it as far as I am concerned after his appearance on The Sportsanimal today. WITF makes him think going on a radio interview to campaign for the OSU job and ridicule the search would do him one bit of good.

Steve Alford has been offered the job. I hate to post one of those "I have an inside scoop" type of posts but a very good friend of mine, who is a booster and very well-connected with all the happenings going on, has said his booster friend says Steve has all the support from boosters and Chad is impressed by him. my friend has never been wrong about these type of things.
Lol wow. Maybe what he's really doing is practicing up for a congressional run. This is a coaching search, Doug, not a political campaign. Radio ads will do nothing for you.
Hmmm. Feels like that would be a solid well established type, but not homerun kinda hire. Guess I'll have to tune in to watch Nevada play on Thursday.

Same thoughts I have. Not a bad hire. Had some success in a few places. But getting up in age and not one I see generating a lot of buzz.
But who knows, maybe this is part of a plan to establish a new known system for a few years before jumping to an up and comer?

This is a big name pick for the boosters. I don't think he's our best option. He's had some good years, but they are few and far between. He's not a Lon Kruger pick. Kruger built sustained, high-level programs everywhere he went.

Sigh......
681 career wins. 66% career winning percentage. He has taken five schools to the NCAA tournament. He is far from my first choice, but he is also very, very far north of average.
Not interested. He hasn’t done much in the last 5 years in the mountain west conference.

He's my top pick. Others have mentioned Will Wade. He looks like a great coach too, if he is no longer breaking bad.
NCAA tournament the last two years with 20+ wins. MW is a pretty good BB conference.
