US continues to go backward...

Yet more big federal government, limitation of state's rights, and heavy handed government from "the party of small government." Anyone that supports the current republican party and claims to be conservative is simply ignorant of what that even means.

First, the House is moving toward a floor vote on a farm bill that includes pesticide language with sweeping consequences. Rep. Pingree offered an amendment in committee to strip that language from the bill during the recent House Agriculture Committee markup. Nearly every Democrat voted yes. Not a single Republican joined them. But the fight is far from over.

The provisions in question would strengthen federal pesticide preemption by removing states’ ability to regulate pesticide usage, strip states and communities of their ability to warn consumers of health risks and establish a liability shield to protect chemical manufacturers from being held accountable when their products make people sick.

Maine is one of seven states with local pesticide ordinances and warning requirements designed to protect people and water. This industry-written language — rubber stamped by Republicans on the House Agriculture Committee — would gut those protections.

36-year-old left the U.S. for China—now pays $1,000 rent and $100 for groceries for family of 4: It’s my ‘version of the American Dream’

I think a lot of American believe a myth that we are far ahead of everyone at technology and going other places would be like a step back in time. I know there are places like that, but much of the world is advancing ahead of us while we kick back and say "Murica."

China is relatively expensive as Asia goes. Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia are amazing.

Meh. Anecdote incoming.

I worked with a girl who taught English in China for a few years. She said she'd much rather live here. Sounds like in the cities maybe you'd be fine in China but once you're into rural country it's poverty X1000. We do in fact enjoy much more freedom here.

It's just me and the wife so I'm being a little disingenuous just let me have this. China sucks USA USA USA

You know what China don't have? Mutherflicking Bald Eagles baby!!!!

They also don't have access to a lot of the internet. And no one complains about the government (because it's forbidden)!

But do you know what they do have? Three (3!!!) government approved religions!

It's paradise though because public transit.

I think some people who haven't traveled much internationally have two different versions of other countries based on what stories they read:

* Some think America is by far the only place in the world for freedom --- that is absolutely not true
* Some think America sucks compared to others -- that is absolutely not true

I think you misunderstood my comment. I have been to China and there is no way in hell I'd live there. I was really commenting more on his mentioning all the tech and such which as I travel I find more and more stuff that I think "Why the hell don't we have this?"
