US continues to go backward...

and yet we keep re-electing them...WTF...
  • House Re-election: Incumbents in the House of Representatives generally have a high success rate, often between 85% and 100% over the last 50 years.
  • Senate Re-election: Senators also have high retention, averaging about 82% to 88% in elections

People tend to like their elected official, not the legislative bodies as a whole. This has been a trend for 10 to 15 years.

The Republican, William Wade Burleson, who is running against longtime incumbent Lucas in Oklahoma's 3rd district is no better than a Christian Nationalist. In a commentary, he even used God and the bible to excuse the awful things President Trump does. It seems we have to accept Trump for what he is because God does, while He awaits Trump coming in humbleness before Him:

"To all those 'bent out of shape' over the Trump internet meme.
RELAX. Trust the LORD.
Donald Trump seems to be proud, even narcissistic.
I'm not bothered by it. Neither should you be. The LORD is in control of human affairs, not you or me.
God's purposes cannot be thwarted. He often chooses to use proud rulers for His glory and the common good of His world.
So, to those going bat‑crazy over the Trump meme, I say again, "Relax!"
God will humble the proud, including you, me, and every human heart, even Donald Trump's.
But that's up to Him. In His time, according to His plans.

Throughout history, God has used proud, arrogant, even narcissistic leaders to accomplish His purposes.
Assyrian King Sennacherib marched against Jerusalem; Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar ruled with absolute pride; Alexander the Great conquered empires; and even Roman Emperor Nero thought himself untouchable.
In every case, God humbled those leaders. Every. Single. Time."

Wonder if he was saying the same thing when Biden and Obama were in office

Nobody should be allowed to take advantage of insider information, but I feel a little bit better about a Master Sergeant getting the grift rather than the friends and family of the Trump ass kissers oligarchy.
I agree it should not occur but he also grifted $400K not millions or even billions like they are doing.

MAGA rep already wants Trump to pardon soldier who bet big on Maduro's capture

A GOP congresswoman wants to pardon the U.S. special forces soldier who was arrested after winning $400,000 by betting on the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

"Maybe not a popular take but I am calling for this guy to be pardoned," Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) posted Thursday on X.

Earlier in the day, a Manhattan federal court unsealed an indictment of Gannon Ken van Dyke, an active-duty member of the U.S. Army who bet $30,000 on the online prediction market Polymarket that Maduro would be out of power by the end of January. The U.S. military launched a raid and extradited him in early January.

Luna argued that the Department of Justice should be going after "all the crooks in Congress currently insider trading" and "unless the DOJ plans on doing Congress next, this is not justice" in her post.

"This is simply skewed justice," Luna wrote. "There is no 'justice' when guys like these get the book thrown at him yet members are illegally profiting every day."

She added that "I don't agree with what he did," but rather than end up behind bars, "he should be required to disgorge all the profits."

GOP lawmaker AWOL for a month and nobody knows what’s going on

A Republican lawmaker has gone AWOL and hasn’t been seen in Washington, D.C., since a vote one month ago, leaving fellow GOP members stumped.

New Jersey Rep. Tom Kean has missed almost 50 roll calls, with none of his Republican colleagues able to confirm where he’s been for the past month, Politico reports.

The outlet reports that the 57-year-old, who faces a tough reelection bid in November, has been absent due to “unspecified health reasons,” but Kean’s team did not elaborate.

New Jersey Republican Reps. Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew told Politico they have contacted Kean out of concern, but neither has heard back. Van Drew said he received “radio silence” after reaching out to the congressman.

GOP Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska told the outlet that he didn’t realize Kean had been gone for so long until he tried to find him on the House floor this week.

“I was looking for him,” Bacon said. “I didn’t know it was that long.”

“I don’t even know the truth myself or even enough to disclose any information,” added Union County GOP Chair Carlos Santos. “But I have been texting with him and was told he’ll be fine and make a full recovery in the next couple weeks.”

New Jersey Democrats also expressed concern for the congressman and said they haven’t heard anything from Kean.

“It’s been a long absence,” Democratic Rep. Rob Menendez said. “I hope he’s doing all right. But I haven’t heard anything.”
