NEW OUT OF TEXAS: Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick refused to assign newly elected Democratic Sen. Taylor Rehmet to any legislative committees. The legislature won't reconvene until after the 2026 midterms, when Rehmet will have to win re-election to keep his seat. With no assignments, he cannot participate in any interim hearings between now and then. He won a reliably Republican Fort Worth district by winning Latino voters in a blowout. TX Republicans are making sure he has nothing to show for it.

Did they release them? Probably a few names on there who would prefer they didn't but you can't fault the state now for running across something from 60 years ago. Now if it's a bunch of stuff from 2010, completely different story.

I was more referencing the fact a Mississippi public office hadn't cleaned up its racist paraphernalia on a Public building that has been there since the 1960s

You're assuming it hadn't been seized in an investigation or was evidence.

You also seem to be assuming it was "their" racist paraphernalia.

You might be right, but if it was evidence in an investigation, them still having it would not have been an indication of malevolent intent or conduct on behalf of the public office.

Isnt evidence held in storage boxes labeled as evidence and locked in an evidence room? This was found in a blue suitcase in a closet

I wouldn't rule out that at some point it was evidence of an extremely violent Mississippi KKK, but I also won't rule out that at some point it was removed from evidence by someone working within the department and hid in an attempt to protect the names of the people on those lists ..

Prior to redistricting a few years ago his district was occupied by one of the last remaining blue dog democrats.

This is what gerrymandering gives us. When you have no concerns about a general election you have to out crazy your primary opponents. When you have to worry about the primary and general election you have to appeal to as many people as possible. I wish we could maximize purple districts and let the chips fall where they may.

Proper best practices would involve secure storage. Not many agencies had evidence security protocols that meet today's best practices in the 60s or even the 70s.

And you continue to assume/allege something nefarious without any real evidence of that.

That's all I'm saying.
