The 108,435 job cuts last month represented a 118% jump from the same period last year and the most in any January since 2009, when the U.S. was reeling from the Great Recession triggered by a housing market crisis, consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas said in its latest monthly report.

The decline comes after previous signs of a stabilizing labor market in December, when 35,553 layoffs marked the lowest total since July 2024.

In a 1700-word diatribe against Pope Leo XIV and Catholic teaching, Speaker Mike Johnson falsely claims God backs mass deportations — and mercy is not the government’s concern.

Immigrant Valentina Gomez is shocked that the Republican Party is treating her … like an immigrant. The congressional candidate has been banned from all official party events in Texas and says she isn’t even allowed to vote in the race she’s running in.

Gomez ran for office in Missouri in 2024 with a big focus on LGBTQ+ people and books. She came in 7th place in her primary. Now she’s moved to Texas where she is running on an Islamophobic platform.

So is the problem her being an immigrant or her being crazy?

If it isn't rigged. Republicans Aren't Running..You don't end your campaign based on Policy, you don't end it based on lack of Qualifications......you end your campaign and specifically cite the Failed Gerrymandering of the District as the reason your dropping out.

Republican candidate drops out after redistricting (gerrymandering) blocked

A Republican congressional candidate in Indiana has dropped out of the race, amid what she described as “egregious gerrymandering,” describing the seat she had hoped to win as “an extremely difficult” one for Republicans to win.

“Indiana’s legislature sadly chose not to redistrict Indiana congressional map to counter Democrats’ egregious gerrymandering and their counting of illegal immigrants in the census,” former Indiana Public Safety Secretary Jennifer-Ruth Green said in a statement one day prior the state’s filing deadline.

“IN-01 remains an extremely difficult seat for a Republican to compete in and win. With your help, we ran a strong race in 2022 and put this district on the map,” she continued. “Having been through it once, I understand the harsh reality: to win this seat, there is no margin for error.”

Newsweek contacted Green’s campaign for comment via email early Friday morning.

Why It Matters

Indiana’s 1st Congressional District, represented by Democrat Frank Mrvan, is one of two Democratic-held House seats in the state and had been the target of a redistricting attempt, making any changes in the GOP lineup consequential for control of the U.S. House.

What To Know

Green announced she would not seek the Republican nomination in Indiana’s 1st District ahead of the state’s filing deadline, citing the state Senate’s rejection of a proposed congressional map and the district’s difficulty for a GOP candidate.

The Indiana House passed a new congressional plan favored by Republicans, but GOP state senators ultimately rejected it in a bipartisan vote, and the existing map will remain in place for this election cycle.

So not rigging the election so you can win is gerrymandering?
