US continues to go backward...

Mike Lindell bases campaign for governor on jailing Democrats

Good. I hope as a typical Republican he only focuses on issues little or unrelated to living conditions in Minnesota, including picking on transgenders. I doubt people want to hear of such nonsense in this age of inflation and an uncertain economy. Hillary Clinton hasn't even been jailed yet.

Somewhere along the way, taxes stopped being about roads, courts, and national defense.
They now exist to sustain worthless politicians and to reward the friends, donors, contractors, and constituencies that keep them in power.
Money is taken from everyone, filtered through Washington, and handed back to the favored few, all while being sold as compassion.
That isn’t a revenue system. It’s a patronage system.
A system built to serve itself has forfeited the right to exist.

I agree this is a huge problem. One year in, do you think any progress has been made on this with the current administration compared to the previous ones?

I think it was said without saying it.

They sure like to make us think it has. I have my doubts.

Honestly, you are well aware I'm no fan, but I was hoping that this was a part that may get better.
But, I think it is a congress issue more than Trump/president.
I sure wish there was a way to fix it. But, it would take a bunch of selfless people getting elected, and well, we ain't even in the right stratosphere for that on either side.

I was and I do recall cimarron. I picked up on a trend during the OP days. A lot of posters used characters from western movies for their avatar. So, I went with Sam Elliot as the cowboy from the Big Lebowski. Haven’t changed it in over a decade.

Has Cim not made it here?
Nope he never made the jump.

It’s a cesspool. Listen to this. Take first comment with a grain of salt. It gets good.

Seems appropriate.

One MAGA idiot from Ohio proposing to make it illegal to be a dual citizen, and another MAGA idiot from Florida wanting the US taxpayer to pay benefits to dual citizens who serve in a foreign military.

One party able to cover both lunatic fringes.

Why is dual citizenship good?

Why is dual citizenship good?
1. Passports from two different countries means you can travel more freely.

2. Entitled to rights and benefits as a citizen in each country.

3. Some countries restrict land and business ownership to citizens.

4. Can live and work indefinitely in both countries without visas or work permits.

5. Creates deeper connection to someone’s culture, heritage, or family connections.

There can be additional responsibilities two such as taxes, military service requirement.

Do you think it’s bad for any reason?

Why is dual citizenship good?

@CowboyJD listed many of the individual reasons why it is beneficial. I would add that as we are seeing in our country permanent residency uses the word "permanent" but it isn't permanent and is at the whim of the current government. I lived 8 years in Australia. With a significant portion of my family being from that country and a nice life, it was a really difficult decision where we wanted to stay. If I had stayed longer in Australia, should I have had to decide to give up my US citizenship forever or live with the risk that at any moment I could be removed from my house and deported?

Also, there are huge economic benefits for the nations. Would the US have been better off if Elon Musk stayed in Canada and started his companies from there? What about Sergey Brin? Going back in history, Levi Strauss, would the US have been better if that jeans brand was German? And, maybe they may have never been able to start the businesses without the economic power of the US. Fine, do we really want to take all of these potential economic dynamos and tell them that if they want to leave their country and start a business here, they must make a lifelong decision and give up citizenship to give it a try? Talk about idiocy to stifle economic growth.

The idea that dual citizenship is bad is petty nonsense from people who are ignorant of economic realities and live in a world of jealousy and schadenfreude.
