US continues to go backward...

In today’s America. The wealthiest country to have ever existed. The top 1% own 31% of the US total wealth. The top 10% own 70%. The bottom 50% own less than 3%.

Data is all over the place but anywhere from 50-70 percent of snap recipients work. Doesn’t say how many hours or what jobs.

I am not suggesting redistribution through government means. But why do we have such low minimum wage and argue that by increasing it would cause inflation, and stay mostly silent when executive and CEO pay has risen exponentially higher?
Oklahoma will vote in June to raise the minimum wage to $15. That means some working people will no longer be eligible for SNAP benefits. So, it will be interesting to see if in their ads Republicans will warn people that they will lose SNAP and go hungry, if they vote yes.

Oklahoma has the second highest percentage rate of those receiving SNAP, so too many people in Oklahoma work at or near poverty wages. 4 of the top 5 states for SNAP have min. wage of $7.25. The one that doesn't, West Virginia, is only $8.75, while having a worse economy than those other states.

About the only response under excesses of capitalism this society has against CEOs and other rich people who have so much fortune is to do as they do and invest in real estate and stocks. Or come up with an inventive business idea as they try to do on Shark Tank. Darn, if only I thought up something as simple as Drop Stop for car seats.

Democrats have a perfect opportunity here but don't appear to have the competence to take it. How can a country with 330 million people have such a vacuum of good leadership?

Voters broadly disapprove of Trump but remain divided on midterms, poll finds

Most Americans disapprove of President Trump’s handling of top issues, and a majority say he has gone too far in exercising his powers.

Americans broadly disapprove of how President Donald Trump is handling his job, and a majority say he has gone too far in exercising the powers of his office, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll. But a year out from the 2026 midterm elections, there is little evidence that negative impressions of Trump’s performance have accrued to the benefit of the Democratic Party, with voters split almost evenly in their support for Democrats and Republicans.
.....
Democrats can find few bright spots of their own in the new survey. Americans see the president and the two political parties as out of touch with their lives. But Democrats — whose popularity has hit low points in other national polls this year — are judged most harshly. While 63 percent of Americans see Trump as out of touch and 61 percent see Republicans that way, 68 percent say the Democrats are out of touch. There has been no improvement for Democrats since a similar poll last April.

Republicans have a narrow majority in the House and Democrats hope to recapture control next year, but at this point the new poll suggests a competitive contest in 2026. When Americans were asked how they would vote if the midterms were held today, 46 percent of registered voters say they would back the Democratic candidate in their district while 44 percent would support the Republican and 9 percent would not vote.

Wonderful even though we already knew this. It shouldn't be that hard to say you can do a better job than the guy who is building a ballroom in the Whitehouse and bragging about the marble in a bathroom he picked out himself while people are worried about their next meal or if their health insurance is going to cost half their take home pay. But here we are.

Look at how many think the parties are out of touch and in touch. People hear the loudest voices in both parties. They don’t feel heard themselves. This is pretty much where I am at.

Yeah. Oh Im not saying the people are out of touch. And I think there are leaders within each party who legitimately want to do good. But either messaging is something they are awful at or they get drowned out by the bs from others within their party. I think the Republicans with Trump are far more likely to do harm to the country but that doesn't mean I want to live in a world where people who say there needs to be a conversation (discussion, not bigotry) about biological males who now identify as female or non binary playing a women's sport being ostracized for just trying to talk about it.

I’m saying that anything and everything is drowned out by the louder voices at the extremes who are driving everything.
