Kimmel suspension is part of a pattern by Trump
Kimmel became the second late-night comic with a history of pillorying Trump to lose their show this year. CBS canceled Stephen Colbert’s show just days after he had criticized the network’s settlement of a lawsuit filed by Trump over its editing of a “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s opponent last fall.CBS said the July move was made for financial reasons, but Trump celebrated it nevertheless while appearing to foreshadow this week’s developments: “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. ABC’s suspension of Kimmel on Wednesday came after Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr made a pointed warning about the comedian on a conservative podcast earlier in the day: “We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” he said.
Carr also launched an investigation into CBS and opened probes into public broadcasting networks after Trump persuaded Congress to defund them.
The Kimmel suspension has highlighted the president’s broader efforts to pressure journalists, media companies, and now comedians and commentators, to align with his views.
Trump also has targeted social media giants, claiming Meta dropped its fact-checking program partly because of his threats, which included jailing founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Even powerful media owners have appeared to bend under pressure. Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, whose companies have significant government contracts, killed an editorial endorsement of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris before the 2024 election and, like Meta, donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration. Disney-owned ABC News agreed to a $15 million settlement to resolve a Trump lawsuit.

Can I ask this... are these FACTS or assumptions in regards to the government really being about to do ANYTHING to stop a late night idiot from saying what he wants to say? If Disney really wanted to stand their ground, would the Trump administration actually win that battle? Or did ABC cave in. Or did ABC listen to the lies that Kimmel said... or what it more this? (I used to watch Kimmel, I enjoyed his "I ate all your Halloween candy" bits then he went hard left and spent much of his program bashing Trump and the GOP).

Free speech is gone. The government has used Kirks murder as the catalyst. Also, the irony of this (because Kirk was a bastion of free speech) should be lost on nobody. Labeling Antifa a terrorist org is terrifying. Antifa, as an organization, literally doesn't exist. It's an ideology. That means this govt. can label ANYBODY they want as Antifa / terrorists, which would be incredibly hard to disprove since there is no actual organization or membership. What an opportunity to silence the media and critics even more. No Kings protestors = Antifa now. AOC = leader of Antifa. Antifa literally stands for Anti Fascism. How can we, as Americans, be against that??
Our government is committing mass murder in international waters. They have now bombed 3 boats they claim are full of drugs and drug runners. But we'll never know, because the boats were disintegrated. They are purposefully desensitizing us to these atrocities, killing at will.
The supreme court has given trump et al full immunity. So when one of the justices last year said they essentially gave presidents the power to murder, they were spot on.
Somebody refute any of what I said above with actual facts. Talk me off the ledge, because I'm having a real hard time seeing anything positive about our govt. or Americas future right now.
My prediction of what happens next - Trump is martyred before midterms. Vance and Miller declare martial law, Project 2025 is fully implemented, and we're all effed.
It's time for me to decide whether fight or flight is the best answer for my family. I don't want my son growing up in this hellhole, but I also don't really want to abandon my life here.

If you think I made pro-censorship comments here, produce them. The search function works well.
Even then, there is a big difference between a government pressuring misinformation during a pandemic and a president threatening to pull a broadcasting license because media on that channel hurt his feelings or was critical of him personally.
While you are at it, since you are into equivalencies, please show where Biden threatened to pull licenses or deplatform members of the media that said not nice things about him.
Otherwise, we all see through your "both sides" schtick. We know what side you constantly go to bat for and what side you continuously do mental gymnastics for.

I wasn't aware that Trump took credit for the fact check dismantle. If so, that would be similar executive pressure like the Biden admin.
Wasn't there some bias and inconsistency discovered with those third parties anyway? Is he stifling free speech from the left on social media? That's my main concern for the future; where does he stop?

There was bias and inconsistency with the 3rd parties. There always is and always will be, which is why I am generally against that sort of thing. I think twitter's community notes is probably the best implementation to do it since it is democratized/decentralized and does not remove the post, but that has significant flaws and can be influenced by bots. Its better to leave it alone altogether.
Right now the trump admin is investigating Twitch, Discord and Reddit among others for "extreme ideology". It is not going to stop there. It is my concern for the future also.
