Whataboutism is a weak debate point when it actually fits.

But pulling it out when it is not even close to the same thing is beyond weak.

The discussion is not about biased media. There is media bias, both ways, all over the modern airwaves and Internet. So what?

This is about the actions of the executive branch. Please show where Biden or the generic "left" as you vaguely like to claim used the FCC to get any right leaning shows or personality cancelled for what they said. Name one, or STFU.

I’m not saying Trump’s FCC weaponization is okay, but the whataboutism applies here and it’s wrong in both cases.

As for people as a whole? How many riots have they had since Kirk was killed? How many cities burned down? Looted? Now what happened when George Floyd died? There's a big difference between conservative reactions and liberal reactions.

Are you being serious with this comparison of a regular black man being killed by police brutality and the protests/riots against police brutality that occurred afterward to the killing of a media personality on stage from a random guy?

We should all be so proud that the side of white guys who love guns are not rioting against a white guy that used a gun to kill a media personality. Maybe if Charlie Kirk had been killed by a voting machine we might have gotten more right-wing riots.

Please show me the media personality or show that was canceled, like Kimmel and Colbert, because of direct FCC pressure to get rid of the personality? "Censor the right" was specifically anti-COVID 19 vaccine propaganda. Whether that pressure was right or wrong, it was about a public safety concern, not "He doesn't like me so he can't talk anymore."

You posted a tweet that says that broadcast licensee cannot lie and cause public harm. I suspect that is exactly the issue with the COVID-19 above. Please show me the public harm that Kimmel cause by giving his opinion that the killer was MAGA.

And, there is NOTHING more hilarious than our neighborhood "libertarian" making no comments about the government crushing speech and the press but liking your post defending it. I don't even claim to be libertarian, but my left small toe has more libertarian in it than that pure MAGA guy that claims he is libertarian.

It may not be new, but it was wrong then and wrong now. Biden Administration should not have pressured Google and Twitter. Carr and Trump threatening ABC over a comment by Kimmel is also incredibly wrong.

Our Government should have very little control over speech in the media. This is literally one of the major foundations of our country. Comments derogatory towards the current administration in no way reach the level for the government to step in and stifle speech.

If Trump wants to show his thin-skin and complain about Kimmel or make fun of him…fine. But to threaten to utilize the power of his office to stop or curtail what Kimmel says …very very bad.

Islamic Extremism is one of the categories. It is the 2nd largest category in the study. In the article, the writer posted their methodology on who they categorized perps. CATO is a right-Libertarian outfit, they do not have a motivation to downplay the left's acts of violence or exaggerate the right's participation.

Are you sure you want to go with the "All political violence lately needs to be included, not just the ones who were 'successful'." line of argument? We can play the what could have happened game all day long. What about January 6th? I'm sure all of the insurrectionists that were chanting "hang Mike Pence" would have just thrown him a party had they gotten through the barricades inside the US capitol, and taken selfies with Nancy Pelosi should they have come across her or other democrats that some were targeting. I'm sure they didn't plan on using the zip tie handcuffs, or the makeshift gallows they constructed should they have been successful.

MAGA is in power, of course they are not going to react that way. They can use the state to smite their enemies instead. When the tables turn, lets see how they handle it. History has shown that they don't handle it well.

Yea, Islamic extremism is obviously on the graph. That will not stop them from using it as the excuse. It must be a pretty amazing world when you can live just believing WTF you want to believe no matter how obviously untrue it is.

Nah, you get nothing about me. If the left is doing something wrong (not that they have any power to do anything at all at the moment) I'll be calling them out. But, trying to equate this to something in the past is madness. And, bravo to you for commenting against it on a post I didn't see and I stand corrected about that part. But, disappointing that you would go back after that and like a post defending it with whataboutism. And, don't bother to make the "it isn't defending because....." It simply is. As Americans, we have to be 100% against this. Trying to show it is business as usual is not 100% against it.

You went out of your way in your reply to OSUWhit to try to defend what the Biden Administration did. What they did was wrong. There is no and, ifs, or buts about it.

What the Trump administration did with Kimmel is also very wrong. I am not defending whataboutism. Both administrations abused their power (IMO). You just happen to excuse one …I don’t. I don’t want the government involved in speech at all.

Neither is technically a 1st Amendment violation because the companies did the censuring not the government, but there is zero doubt that pressure for the government in both cases pushed them to make those decisions…and that is a bad slope.

One doesn't necessarily need to be a lawyer or very smart. It's simply a human characteristic we're born with to live life engaged in crass hypocrisy. Some prominent humans, such as Trump, are worse at it than others.

The similarities are abusive power between the two executive branches. Biden admin used social media censorship. Trump admin used FCC censorship.
