I didn´t realize COVID was still a touchy topic for republicans/magas...having various conversations with family this past weekend, COVID, vaccines, Fauci, etc were still high on their madder than hell list...I found out that COVID was not nearly as bad as media made it out to be, vaccines did not really work (cuz people who received shots still got it), vaccines will still probably lead to health issues down the way, Fauci was an idiot/liar/pawn etc., death tolls in US were so high cuz hospitals counted people getting in car wrecks as covid victims, we didn´t need to shut down, mask up, etc....I fought the good fight, using my facts vs. theirs but to no avail...

The interesting thing is they now see those things as historical record, not possible conspiracies.

It is like people who are convinced that the holocaust was fake, that the US government did 911, that we did not land on the moon etc but at a much higher percentage of the population because the Republican Party (and, therefore, currently the US government) gives the BS validity.

They don't see it as an interesting conspiracy that possibly could have truth. They see it as proven fact and anyone who believes otherwise is just a gullible fool to the fake media. Therefore, it is literally impossible to use facts to convince them otherwise.

The Spanish flu had some of the same countermeasures with similar levels of resistance (at least from what I have read) but no one claims it was fake. Some people 100 years ago just felt the same way about face covering and social distancing that others feel now. I wonder how history books in red states are going to record the past few years

A co-worker of mine recently started dating someone and he was excited because she never got the vaccine shot. It is a green flag to him as it is his "most far right political stance"

They really do feel vindicated by everything since COVID. Every new piece of information is twisted into confirming their bias.

The article states the Fed warns of higher inflation from the tariffs which the media are calling Trump’s tariffs.

Yes inflation will probably rise. And yes lower interest rates would help Trump personally.

But it occurred to me and maybe I’m just slow to the party that trumps attack on Powell who most magastani’s don’t even know is really not designed to get rid of but instead are designed to discredit the Fed and assign blame to the Fed when inflation rises.

Most people didn’t know what the BLS chair’s roll was in the jobs report but he discredited her and fired her and is building the narrative that numbers can’t be trusted unless they come from him. Why has he not fired Powell? His attacks on him have been louder and more persistent. It’s bc (1) hrs been told he can’t and (2) he needs a heel. A villain for when inflation shows up again. The Fed is one of the sources on reporting inflation. Sure his Magastani’s will feel it in their wallet but if he discredits the source who is already saying his tariffs are to blame then those cultists will believe him.

It’s actually a pretty genius gaslight. It’s a gaslight but I bet it works on the cult.

Todays shock: Dijon mustard powder (bulk) was ~$20 last month. This month - $56.
A case of bleach was under $10, now it's $20+

We're doing the most business we've ever done (in terms of customers and $$ amount) and making the least amount of money.

But it's totally cool. I'm sure these tariffs will help offset the $84 million per day we're burning through to send brown people to concentration camps.

My company meeting this week. Going to need at least 1 more price increase this year, have paid the Federal Govt $90 million in tariffs in first 6 months of the year...we had only planned for $40 million but that was only based on tariffs from first round and didn't includ all the other changes etc as we import goods from 13 different countries

Growing by 16% but after tariffs our net profit is -2% compared to 2024

I hope prominent Republicans as well as Democrats are complaining about this, rather than ignoring it. After all, it makes Trump look badly crazy, stupid and senile before world leaders. No wonder Putin has referred to him as a useful idiot. Useful for what must be the scary part.

I didn't feel comfortable having Trump as president the first time around and now the 2nd time it's even more uncomfortable.

Paul Ryan and Jeff Flake may have been the smartest men in the country. They saw things quickly and noped right out of office. I would like to think they should have had the stones to fight the good fight but after what happened to Liz Cheney Im not sure how much good it could have done. As a party they should have said on Jan 6th enough is enough but party over country so yeah.
