Watching the NEC championship between LIU & a 17-16 Mercyhurst team in the championship game, & Mercyhurst giving them everything they want. But LIU is automatically advancing regardless of outcome because Mercyhurst is in their first year in D1 & ineligible to advance.

Can anyone explain the logic of a team moving UP in competition, but being ineligible for inclusion into the postseason? I mean, they moved up in class but now they’re not eligible for the postseason just because?

NCAA. Enough said.

I think the logic is they don't want a really great team at a lower division move up the next year because they have a great team coming back and compete for a championship immediately. Then perhaps move back down a year or two later. The NCAA wants to make sure they are moving up for the long haul, not just for immediate gratification. In this day and age though....you have no idea who will be on a team from year to year.

The real question is where does all the money go that the NCAA charges schools to move up to D1? Does the reclassification really cost the NCAA millions like they charge? Doubtful.
