Portal Recruiting and Roster Updates

Seeing conflicting info on Bogavac's classification. The UNC website's roster had him listed as a junior last year but it was his first season of college basketball after playing professionally overseas, not unlike Mantzoukas and Guetta who were freshmen. Other websites that track statistics and articles list him as a freshman. So I am not sure whether he is going to be a sophomore or a senior.

Besides replacing a senior, I don’t feel classifications matter anymore. Feels like 70% of basketball players are one year rentals for everyone.
You are right, good call. I think Boynton could have probably saved his job his last season had he realized this and brought in a roster full of experienced players ready to contribute. Instead he brought in a roster full of freshman. Under normal circumstances it would have been a great recruiting class but you can't count on a freshmen heavy roster to win right away. If Boynton would have getting experienced guys out of the portal he would have been able to field some really good teams with his recruiting ability.

The biggest knock on Bogavac has been his lack of defense. I guess we will find out in about 7 months.
North Carolina fans that I’ve seen actually seem to complain about his shot selection, over dribbling, and lack of a tight handle leading to turnovers. Sounds a lot like Roy. I watched a handful of Tar Heels games this year. I thought Bogan seemed locked in and connected on defense. He plays tough. I can say with confidence he’ll be an upgrade on the defensive end compared to Miller and Roy.

Yall wanted defense? Lutz gives you defense.

I am stoked about this guy. I legitimately think he would have been the best backcourt player on last year's team. Effects the game in so many different ways beyond scoring with great rebounding, defense, steals, and nasty blocks. This guy is going to make the crowd get rowdy a lot next year.

This is slowly turning into a positive looking roster.

So Oklahoma State basketball has had good, & even great recruiting classes since Eddie. Ironically they haven’t amounted to what One tournament win & a couple of other appearances.

This continued notion that if things had just gone a little differently for Boynton he’d still be at OSU is interesting.

I certainly understand your perspective. What is clear is that Boynton was an elite recruiter. He could get guys that he wanted and beat good schools out to get them. All I am saying is that I think his decision to recruit a large class of freshman before his last season, when he could have brought in a class of experienced transfers, likely kept him from winning enough games to get another year as head coach. Not saying he would have made a deep tournament run.

Perhaps I am prone to give him the benefit of the doubt due to his likability and the grueling circumstances with the NCAA immediately after being hired.

I still believe Boynton is going to be a successful head coach and I am rooting for him, hoping that will be the case.

Boynton got Cade. And he had to hire his brother to get him. Other than that he couldn’t build a deep roster. Who was his next player to recruit besides Cade? Brandon Garrison? He was meh. Rondell Walker? Meh. Eric Dailey? Avery Anderson?

If Boynton was an elite recruiter he failed miserably at evaluation and player development.
