Portal Recruiting and Roster Updates

Not a Clary fan as a starter. As a backup OK. He doesn’t always give the offense the best opportunities to score which is his entire job as a point guard.
Clary played in all games this season. He averaged 10.5 points, 3 boards and 4.5 assists. He shot 38% from the field (this is probably his worst stat), 35% from 3, and 80% from the line. He had a 2.5/1 assists to turnover ratio (that’s really good). He had a 27% assist rate, again, really good. He graded out as a net positive on defense as well. Clary lacks height, sometimes over penetrates and gets in trouble, can have poor shot selection at times, and he needs to finish better in the paint. He’s also probably our only guard who was consistently reliable and he got better as the season went on.

All that to say, he’s a good, not great Big 12 starting PG. I’d rather he return after being in the system for a year than take a risk on another guy. He handled himself well in every press conference after games. By all accounts he’s a good teammate. I’m glad he’s reportedly coming back.

I think we expect every player to be a $1M 4-5 star future NBA player. It can take a couple yrs to learn a system, develop ball handling and become an all conference type player. I think our patient wears thin in all sports and we are quick to judge players faults. I liked Clarys body language and we hustles. Like any player he can clean up some things but he represented our program well!

Having additional scorers around him (please, please, please) will make him even better. Just a few guys who can hit open jump shots should cut down on the number of drives where he has to challenge opposing bigs.

Imagine being a booster at NC State right now.

They got together somewhere from $8-12 for the roster in Will Wade’s first year as Head Coach. They lose in a first four game, then the coach and the roster are gone.

Then Administration gets to come out again and beg for even more NIL to help the next guy succeed.🥴

Imagine being the AD having to sell that. You probably spent way too much time trying to convince everyone that he may be a slimeball but he's our slimeball, spent most of the season trying to convince everyone that things aren't perfect but we are on the right track and with a little time and cash things will improve. And now you have to convince them that the next guy is the real deal.

Life was alot easier when you could just hire someone that cheats, look the other way, and hope he didn't get caught.

Yeah it's gotten weird when you hire someone that cheats, looks the other way, gets caught, you fire him, then a few years later you pay a bunch of buyouts and hire him back! :ROFLMAO:

These are great points. I just wish he would consistently analyze and break down the defense with team basketball. In other words, he needs to be more of a coach on the floor. Maybe that comes with time.

To confirm his slimeball status he even took a shot at NC State during his presser in Baton Rouge.
