OSU in Big 12 Tournament

What I like is that he somehow won 7 league games with a team that doesn't have league talent. To me, that is over achieving. There's tons of questions marks, but really it boils down to 1: can he bring talent to OSU?

This season at least has me optmistic that there's a chance to get better. We'll see. A full offseason to hit the portal will help.

The article abou Self being the reason Lutz was hired so late in the year stated there was quite a bit of money for Self to use for recruitment etc. Hopefully that is the same wiht Lutz. He deserves to have the resources to be on a level playing field, this year he was not - from a talent perspecitve.

Well the good news is that it’s over. I think once he can get some guys more suited for his style in here and a real scorer he will be fine. He started behind the 8 ball now he can go to work this off season and get, hopefully, a better roster.

I love your first sentence. I agree Lutz over archieved with the talent on this team.

I know the portal matters more. But the fact that Lutz currently has the 28th best recruiting class out of high school is impressive. He’s also secured the commitment of two bigs that are better than any bigs Boynton ever recruited. I think he can get talent, he just got a late start last year.

His recruits so far look pretty good.

When I look at what OSU has returning (possibly: Dean, Keller, Jennings, Dow, Vukovic) and what they are bringing in (Crotty, Ragland, and Ahmed), Lutz is going to have to really hit some home runs in the portal to improve this team next year. Will be interesting to see how well Lutz develops whichever of those 5 guys doesn't transfer out. I am excited about the recruits but I don't think you can expect too much from them their freshman years, particularly Ragland and Ahmed who both appear that they are going to need some time to get their bodies in the right condition for Big 12 basketball. I really hope Dow and Crotty can develop into players who are worthy of 20+ minutes per game because it is so important to have 3 point shooters on the floor. I am hopeful that Lutz can have more success recruiting the portal having a full off-season to navigate that.

I think he can acquire the talent to be anywhere from 4-10 in this league. I question if his style translates. Kansas will always have more talent. Arizona also. Houston, Iowa St, Tech and Baylor will be slug fests every year. Yes we beat Iowa St this yr but they were down players and coming off a loss at Houston in a very physical game. They had no legs.

I’m not sold on our defensive style. We chase and trap and give up way too many uncontested 3s.

The offensive pace can be ok. He just needs a pg who values possessions where he can slide Dean off the ball. Too many turnovers.

Player development was a plus. Thompson got closer to being a good college player. Especially in February. Ousmane developed nicely. And some of the role players got better.

Keep the 5 who can come back. Add a good pg, shooter and scorer and I think we have a shot at the tourney.

Most of all we’ve got to get off the roster overhaul every year.
