OSU at KSU

Crazy site.
You'd think a group of mostly homegrown kids who absolutely refuse to quit would be celebrated. Not here. In fact one poster even had the nerve to question their courage.
Three two strike hits down two in the top of the ninth in front of a sellout crowd on the road to take the lead. Wimps. Only mention here is 'On to extras'
Kid strikes out six times. Multiple postings here complete with an LOL documenting his struggles yet when that same kid puts all that behind him to drive in the insurance run (no guts evident there) post here credits 'Law of probability".
Twenty three kids played and contributed but the 13th inning win is only 'avoided the sweep". Sorry you're disappointed

Glad for the W, but this is a questionable mentality. We lost the series and look like a team that may not make regionals. Not gonna celebrate losing.

If you can be objective there is no other way to describe this season so far other than disappointing. I would be thrilled if they ripped off a few series win and made some noise at a super regionals. But at this point that is a far reach.

Don’t be content with this kind of expectation from our athletic program.

First time on the internet Mrs Wentworth?

To me "refusing to quit" should be the minimum. Yesterday was impressive that they hung with it and pulled it out. I was surprised because that hasn't been the norm.

They are currently tied for 8th in a very average league. This isn't little league or high school. We're not here to celebrate trying hard. These kids get a free education AND many of them get paid more than I do.

Going to see them play at home costs me anywhere from 75-125 dollars per game. So if I want to go to 10 games?......I'd prefer to not see them set records for futility, over and over, when I go.

I think though, when most of us "lol" at a kid striking out 6 times, to us its an indictment of the head coach. Many of us realize that the same kid could go somehwere else (as often happens) and be more successful.

First, you are free to leave if this place isn't your vibe. Second, I think you are misunderstanding what is happening here. I don't speak for everyone but the general vibe I get is people aren't frustrated with the kids they are done with Holliday. I have been watching OSU baseball for a long time. This is the first year I have watched under 5 games. Every single season for the past 5-10 years its been the same issues. High strikeout rate, low IQ baseball. No matter the lineup, no matter the talent, its the same issues. Its like we are stuck in groundhog's day. People, myself included, are done watching it. It's not hate, its apathy.

And the third straight meltdown after having a lead is nearly complete. We will go out with a whimper in the top of the ninth without mounting any kind of a threat. A complete coaching change needs to be made with this program. It is very close to losing all interest from Oklahoma State fans and it’s likely already lost interest by the donors! Allowing this to degrade to the point that it has for the length of time that it has, is an absolute slap in the face to Cecil O’Brate and his family!
I've tried multiple times to not get deterred about watching this team. These last two series are inexcusable, having built leads in MULTIPLE games only for us to inevitably lose is so frustrating and dont get me started about these abysmal mid week games either.

The TDS on MSNBC vibe? You feel it too?

"These kids get a free education AND many of them get paid more than I do." You sure about that? I've seen it creditably reported that while OSU has funded more than the 11.7 of old we still are still far short of a 100% on scholarship. I can't speak to the NIL monies, or of course what you make, but a glance at the players parking area during the fall scrimmages sure looked like any other lot on campus. I'm betting a guy who hit five bombs in a regional last year could have picked a new 250 and parked it in any lot in the SEC, as could a clutch 6'7 first baseman who picks or a gold glove third baseman yet they all chose to stick with this program. If your problem is simply envy I think it is misinformed and misdirected.

"Going to see them play at home costs me anywhere from 75-125 dollars per game. So if I want to go to 10 games?......I'd prefer to not see them set records for futility, over and over, when I go" What result do you think you're owed for your $1,000 annual investment? So far this year they are 15-3 at home with two walk off home runs, one one run game won late on a hit and run, and a seven run comeback but as you say 'refusing to quit' is just your minimum.

"Many of us realize that the same kid could go somehwere else (as often happens) and be more successful." That same kid actually came from a better funded program and is more successful in Stillwater.

If you can point out who is at fault for the decimated pitching staff I think we'd all like to see that guy drawn and quartered. Until that happens though we are going to have to see kids who are supposed to be learning how to pitch being patched into tough situations too soon.

Ehh I ain’t apologizing for what I said. I stand on it no question about it. We struck over 60 times this weekend to mediocre pitching.
- each K-state starter had a career high in strikeouts
- k-state set a school record in strikeouts in a game
-k-state set a school record in strikeouts in a series
- TP tied a NCAA record in strikeouts in a game
- OSU scored 25 runs in a 3 game series. 8 runs a game usually wins a series. Possibly sweep!!

Despite the strikeouts, we still scored 25 runs. That means k-state pitching really sucks ass!!! You could make the argument that should’ve won the series despite our inability to pitch.

Despite the injuries, if we have simply AVERAGE pitching, we would be on top of the big XII standings IMO. The league is that bad, and if we could finish games, we win at UCF, BYU, and K-state. I’ve yet to see a team that is clearly better than us for an entire series. Maybe Kansas will prove me wrong

the injuries have been numerous over the years. A lot of slider first approaches from the Wizard were blamed by many.

I feel that it’s not that kids aren’t trying.

It’s become a long pattern of low-IQ baseball when it matters. A lot of guessing at the plate in key situations. A lot of clueless at bats. A TON of non-clutch at bats where a ball in play scores a run and we go strikeout-steikeout against sub par pitching year after year. It’s frustrating to watch. It’s actually a burden to watch. The OSU baseball brand that many of us wore with pride growing up has fizzled out and lost its national image. It’s stagnant in a deteriorating way. We don’t have the Roc Roggio or the tough asses from the 90s that would break up double plays with their shins and have dirty uniforms before even starting the game. The hard-nosed aggressive philosophies have left this program. To me it feels like Josh has catered to these travel ball all-stars and has befriended them instead of holding the program standard over players. Yes, the NIL world sucks but we should have a much better & overall cleaner product on the field than what we see each game.

15-3 at home is great. Against....who? I went to a game against mighty South Dakota State that took a miracle comeback that I guess we're supposed to celebrate? I left long before the comeback and I wasn't sad about it. And SDSU is two of your walk offs that I guess will help get back to Omaha.

I also sat through a few innings of what ended up being a 19-5 loss to Gardner-Webb. The effort that day was not there, at all. Not worth the money or the time.

When I know I'm going to drive an hour, pay around 100 dollars, sit for 3 hours, then drive an hour home--I expect to see a team that will battle every inning and at least is fun to watch. That's not a huge ask. If I was a KSU fan, I'd find them fun to watch. They don't have pitching either, but they just battle and battle. Which is why they took 2 of 3 from us and were 1 pitch from a sweep. KSU does not have more resources or money, they just are tougher. And that's Pete Hughes vs Josh Holliday.

I only follow because I've been watching OSU baseball since 1985 and it's just what I do. I'd love to be positive about how things are going, but there's not much to grasp on to.

I've tried and tried to get my 14 year old son to watch--he loves sports and OSU--but he thinks its no fun to watch a team constantly strike out and blows leads. That frustrates me.

I don't blame him.

" I left long before the comeback and I wasn't sad about it"

So 'refusing to quit' is only applicable to others? Got it.

Absolutely. They are the players, and this is what they've committed to do. I am an adult fan with my own life, own job, own responsibilities. I refused to quit when I was an athlete, and I refuse to quit in my job. I also show up and leave at my leisure. I'm a paying customer. The Athletic Dept needs people like me to show up.

I'd love to make OSU baseball a part of my weekend family routine, but its not really worth the time for us.

Just so I'm clear, you drove an hour, then stalked out of a baseball game in the fifth inning, taking your 14 year old son, to angrily drive an hour home and you are proud of that?

You know what? We just aren't the same.
Have a great day.

I wasn't angry at all.
We were just bored so we went to get some food and then headed home.

I am a huge college baseball fan, but watching guys strikeout over and over just isn't appealing.

I'm not sure what your goal is here, you're not really accomplishing much.

His goal apparently is to show how much better of an OSU fan he is than us because we dare to have an opinion.

Meh. Year 1-5 of Josh in Allie P.?? I’m willing to chalk this year up to an anomaly or lack of resources. But this is his 14th season with the last 6 playing in one of the best stadiums in college baseball. His teams are regressing. He hasn’t even won a regional in 7 years. He is what he is. Time for a change.
