ICE

Do we still not have any idea who ICE officers actually are?
No, and that's the other problem that I would also like counter-opinions on.

Law enforcement is unmasked in this country until very recently. It creates accountability and reduces tensions on a person to person level. ICE is nameless and faceless. While that is 'super cool' when fighting against enemies abroad, but I wouldn't say it gives me the warm and fuzzies when it's used on Renee, your neighbor from across the street.

I just try to imagine this happening in the 90's or early 2000's. Not a single Trump supporter would think this is a good idea.

Party of small government cheerleads masked police force grabbing anyone with the wrong skin tone off the streets. All with zero accountability.

Some randomness:

No body cams. They are coming in February

If you watch the film from the beginning, he has his phone out and filming things. He walks around the right side of the sun and to the front. Where he still has the phone in his left hand up to the second he shoots. They need to get that phone.

Why did Moe and Larry go running away from the incident after it happened?

You got to be kidding me. That doesn't "clearly" show anything but a tree.

No decent human executes someone that is clearly trying to drive off and not hit him. C'mon man.
According to our government he's lucky to be alive, saved the lives of everyone in a 50 foot radius, driver is a domestic terrorist. Car was moving maaaybeee 5 mph...

Funny how I was the only one trying to show you the truth.....lol

Ok. If EVERYONE ELSE is saying they saw one thing and you are saying you saw another do you think maybe there is a chance you are the one seeing what you want to see?

The officers lack of training based on observation of the incident was brought up. When I replied to you commenting on it you posted something about the job requirements for this type of position. Cool but looking at all the ads the government is pushing for ICE agents it seems fairly apparent that they are more concerned about getting numbers and less so about getting the best of the best. Based on tons of other footage prior to this it seemed apparent that either the training for new agents is substandard for this line of work or that their superiors simply didn't care what they did as long as they met quotas. Probably both. Its been said before that it was only a matter of time before someone was killed and now it has happened.

The video you posted-I couldn't tell anything from it. And I looked. If we have learned anything about incidents that turn into political footballs it's that you really need to get as many facts as you can before you jump to conclusions so I took the video at face value but really couldn't draw anything conclusive from it. I also looked at the account you posted the video from and I don't know that his followers are going to need much prodding for their minds to be made up. So is it possible that watching the video and reading the comments made you think you saw something there that you wanted to see versus what it actually showed?

Again I think it's too early to say what really happened here. My personal bias is that she tried to be a hero by standing up to ICE, realized that she may have f'ed up and tried to get away when it was too late. It's probably likely that the person who fired the shot panicked himself and made a terrible decision instead of simply stepping out of the way. I have no idea if there was a criminal offense committed by either party but if there was one by the woman it wasn't something that deserved the death penalty. The bigger moral offense here was having people in this situation where it happened in the first place.

Seems like you're refusing to see what you don't want to see. The screenshot I posted clearly shows him in front of the car as he takes the shot.
Let's hope he had a body cam.
People are going to see what they want to see. But this is certainly a video that can be interpreted various ways.

* The lady does appear to be accelerating at the officer. If she would not have been shot, then an assault with a deadly weapon or aggravated assault would probably be an appropriate charge.

* The officer in front of the vehicle raises his weapon prior to the lady turning the wheel away from him. I think it is fair it supports, although does not prove, a self-defense claim.

* BUT: Unless she was a wanted criminal or was an imminent threat to others, I don’t understand/support any law enforcement agency shooting to kill in this situation.

I think there is a legitimate argument that his first shot was self-defense. But the other two shots were definitely from the side after driver turned away.

I think the question is should deadly force be a first or last defense.

Exactly. If he was worried about his life, the smartest and best way to save it would have been to dive/run to the side so that she could not have hit him. Even if she had not turned her wheel away from him as she did because she obviously was trying NOT to hit him, she never would have been able to hit him if he had evaded to the side.

He chose to kill her. It may be able to be claimed as self-defense. But no logical person would think that when about to be struck by a vehicle at a few feet when already near the side, the best move is to stand still and shoot the driver. That is idiotic.

Officer Roy Oliver claimed self defense in 2017 for shooting a teen riding in a car he claimed was trying to run him over. Body cam footage showed otherwise. He was sentenced to 15 years and subsequent appeals have failed. Victim’s family won a $21.6 million civil suit. Different situation, but the videos I have seen aren’t conclusive that she was trying to hit him. I think most LEOs are taught not to approach an occupied car from the front, so this probably could have been prevented if the ICE officer had followed his training.
