How it started...How it's going thread

Im sure there was plenty of dark money floating around from both sides in this one.

I think about all the money spent on political campaigns and wonder how much better it could be put to use feeding the hungry or housing the homeless
This is something that has always bothered me. Ideally there would/should be a spending cap on political campaigns. The cap level could ratchet up based on the level of office in play. Also, I would love to see a limit placed on when campaigning can begin. That might help with the spending aspect to some extent. I'm sure it would not be easy to implement these ideas or anything like them...

Yeah. Ideally it would be an even and relatively inexpensive situation but as long as you can have groups advertise without endorsing a particular candidate there will always be a wat around it.

BREAKING: A Republican appointed judge in Virginia has declared last night's election void. The redistricting effort is officially on hold.

Virginia's Attorney General says he will appeal immediately.

They voted on it

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday called the mid-decade redistricting plan approved by Virginia voters a “dishonest gambit to try to rig the system” and predicted the state’s Supreme Court would strike down the new map.

“It’s a hyper-partisan, gerrymandering boondoggle. We fought hard. We raised a ton of money. We did our best, but the Democrats in charge of Virginia foisted this upon the people,” he told reporters at the Capitol.
