How it started...How it's going thread

Previously, unless I really liked the candidate, I would vote third party because the hope of more choice in the future was more important to me than which of the major party candidates won. But I voted for Harris. Even though I was in Oklahoma and it did not matter, I did it to protest the idea of Trump and hoping to avoid what happened, him getting a majority.

I think our founding fathers would have put more safeguards in the Constitution if they could have seen what is happening today. A maximum age. No felonies. No impeachments.

I suspect they trusted the voter to weed out any candidate harmful to the system. They could not have foreseen the misinformation age. They could not have foreseen a candidate who admits he lies to people because they will believe it. He does, and they still believe it.
One of the things I love about this board is it does a great job at inspiring thought and subsequently further research.

Your post is case in point and makes several great points.

The life expectancy in the US in 1776 was mid 30s for males. Several founding fathers lived into their 70s and 80s. The average life span of the signers of the declaration of independence was 66.

How much did that or could that have played into their debates on age issues?

MTG: Republicans can't even fund homeland security. Yet they're going to pass another supplemental to fund the war in Iran. I'm still waiting on Mike Johnson to roll out that Republican health care plan that he boasted about because Americans can't even afford health insurance right now

Charlie Kirk Show turns its back on MAGA senator Lindsey Graham

Charlie Kirk Show hosts Blake Neff and Andrew Kolvet featured Sen. Lindsey Graham's primary opponents Paul Davis and Mark Lynch on Monday's broadcast, criticizing the South Carolina Republican as a "neocon warmonger" focused on Middle East military intervention.

Kolvet invoked Kirk's previous characterization of Graham as "Lady Graham" and cited a 2023 Kirk quote opposing neoconservatives who "want to spend our money to bomb faraway lands."

I don't want to put words in your mouth but it sounds like you are saying you kinda wanted to vote for Trump(I know you would never voted for Trump you explicitly said that numerous times) but just couldn't vote for him. But with Biden/Harris there wasn't even a thought just no. If that's correct why would you not even consider the Biden/Harris side?
Biden was clearly too old and incapable. The only reason Harris was chosen is because she was already on the ticket and they would still be able to use the campaign funds. She didn’t give any reason to vote for her, she was an unserious candidate.

Steross asked if I was still happy with my choice and the answer was “no”. Had I chosen otherwise it is highly likely that I would still be unhappy, but for entirely different reasons and the quantity of unhappiness might also be different.

I don’t think there was a possible outcome that would have made me happy, including if the Libertarian candidate had somehow won. The last three elections have featured the worst candidates in our nation’s history.

I completely agree with you. But just see it from I would rather vote for the person that has an actual chance against a candidate like Trump. I'm all for voting third party normally.

I’m really hoping for better candidates in the next election. I’m at the point where I’m not going to vote for any of the Trump MAGA sycophants, they need to be purged from the system. If the Democrats offer us another Barack Obama or Bill Clinton for the first time ever in a national election they will get my vote.

But… we will see.

Yeah, I get it. It’s like what are my principles worth now when the last year has felt like twelve and it feels like it is never going to end.

During my annual review my supervisor asked me how it was going prepping for the ethics certification. I told him that I had to be perfectly honest, I have been so discouraged by everything that I stopped prepping. He said he understood and I wasn’t alone. But it’s important, it would leave the med center without a certified ethics consultant, so I’m prepping again.

The Ds have to get this right. Polling from last week showed Harris as a leading candidate. The world will have had to have gone to complete outhouse basement levels of crap for Harris to win.

It has to be a straight white center left male to have a chance. Any other candidate demographics, I don’t think America elects.

I’m also not a fan of Gavin or Pritzker. So I’m generally curious who out there on the D side could get @RxCowboy vote? I don’t think it could be a relatively unknown bc they would have such a hard time getting out of a primary w money.

Shapiro?
Talarico?
Polis?
Beshear?

Also, bc I have voted for Rs in the past who are some nonMAGA Rs worth paying attention to? I love Kasich but he is too never Trump tainted to get an R nomination. Also one problem for me is that Rs will have to kiss the ring for the foreseeable future or at least be Magastani adjacent to even have a shot.

If we survive the next 3 yrs democracy intact and Trump does exit the WH I can never vote for an R that doesn’t 100% disavow Trump/Maga. Unfortunately I just don’t see that happening for the next 2 cycles.
