Has an otherwise successful HC ever presided over the demise of a program to this degree?

Has there ever been a rule change as unprecedented at the new NIL? But just recently - Florida State.
I haven't seen any other programs in the new NIL era totally fall apart. Florida State has not been good the last couple of years, but they're not yet the disaster that we are. They're two years removed from going 13-0.

Wisconsin is the only one close, & our programs share a pretty similar history over the last couple of decades. Difference being that they hired Fickell-who was considered a home run at the time. For whatever reasons, it’s been a disaster.

I’m not sure they’re quite at our level of bad, but that’s a good comparison.

This is a head scratcher. How can a guy have such success at Cincinnada and crash and burn at Wisconsin?

My opinion isn't welcomed here on this topic, but I believe firmly it's because he cared way, way more about Gundy than he did about OSU. Look at all the times he interviewed at other universities to leverage for more money from OSU (then whining that he didn't have the money to pay his assistants, then finding creative ways to do even LESS work while paying those assistants even less). Look at how often he mocked and bedowngraded his own fans. He was not a "loyal and true" OSU alum. He just found a way to maximize his bank account while minimizing his work. It's a simple concept, and most reject the theory, but I just think he was literally that greedy and selfish.
Whether it’s as Birry or this handle, you’re still an unapologetic dipsh!t. I guess I’m happy for you because your second birthday happened when Gundy got fired, but here we are: no closer to success and now leaderless.

Congratulations, dumbass.

Bro, it's wild that you're this emotional and bitter about a rich guy losing his job. I'm actually surprised you didn't dress up as a Shaman and storm the athletic department. Such is your devotion.

To address the content of your rant; I didn't celebrate Gundy's firing. It was a sad day for OSU. Sure, it needed to happen, and should have happened earlier, but it was a somber, heavy day as an OSU fan.

Take care.

The culture became toxic in summer of 2020 when gundy chose to wear his OAN shirt during BLM turmoil going on in our country…maybe a stretch here…but I do think he eventually lost touch with his players, and did not/could not relate to them…

I think he lost the team when he decided to run off Knowles. His ego thought he could put pee wee Herman as a coordinator and still succeed
