So there are a lot of great moments to choose from during Gundy’s 20 years. The 2011 Fiesta is undoubtedly a high water mark, but I think we’ll all have different ones from through the years that stand out to each of us, so I’m curious what yours are.
Mine?
#1. Think it was 2008 when we went to Columbia to play Mizzou with Chase Daniel. OU-TX had happened earlier that day and Mizzou was set to move to #1 if they beat us.
I was in Columbia that day, went to Harpo’s and a few other places pregame. A friend had rented a limo from KC for us and we rolled around the stadium and tailgate area standing up through the sunroof and waving an OSU flag. Let’s just say it provoked a pretty negative reaction.
I shouted that the MAN’S in town! They were arrogant pricks that day and it was like being patted on the head and told ‘you’ve got a nice little team, but…’
Then the game kicks off. I had a sideline pass so I’m down there with the team. Erin Andrews is patrolling the sideline-absolute complete fn smokeshow, my god.
Anyway, Desmond Davis comes out of nowhere to make some critical catches after Dez got knocked out early, and Kendall Hunter makes the announcement that he’s arrived that night, & our defense finds a way to make critical stops against Daniel, Macklin & company.
After the game I go under the bowl on the south end of the stadium where the visitors locker room is and players are meeting with their families. Mizzou fans are harassing them and outta the locker room comes a shirtless Doug Meachem giving it to them with both barrels.
I think that night, for me, told me we’d arrived. We were living in a world where 5 of the 6 B12 South teams were ranked, but I felt like we could compete.
#2. 2011 vs Baylor in Stillwater. RGIII & company rolled into BPS and it’s a huge matchup. Defense stuffs them on an early 4th down and the next thing you know it’s 49-3.
We knew that team was special, but the way that we dominated them showed that we were legit National title contenders.
#3. 2022 last Bedlam. Beating them, Riley & Williams in the last Bedlam was incredible. Just the fact that they were leaving and that the conference was now decimated, it just felt amazing to give them the L on their way out.
