Big XII Tournament starts Wednesday.

Baylor v. KU
UCF v. Utah
BYU v. Houston

Cowgirls play Thursday at 11:00 am vs. Arizona State. If they win that game, they will most likely play Texas Tech on Friday at 3:00. Championship game is Saturday at 11:00. Single elimination.

This tournament is winnable if the offense shows up and we can a few quality innings from someone not named Meylan. Tech and Arizona are probably long shots to get a top 8 seed. Arizona has a better chance since their RPI is 11 and Techs is 20.

Fourteen of the top 30 teams in the latest NCAA softball ranking are SEC schools. The only SEC school not in the top 30 is Kentucky. The top six teams are from the SEC.

Speaking of the OSU offense, team batting average is .300, which is down from .307 last year. In 2023, the team BA was .324, which was Whitney Cloer’s only season as hitting coach. Team average was .291 in 2022, which was Cottrill’s last season. Don’t know the reasons for letting Cloer go (and don’t really care at this point) but she was statistically our best hitting coach in several years. Missouri hit .255 this season, so Cottrill may be out of work soon.

I agree that they can win it. I think Meylan and Crandall will be enough, if they are at the top of their game. They are going to have to starting coming through with RISP, though.

I know I'm kind of a broken record, but those batting numbers reflect the difference between being a CWS contender versus being a true national title contender. We've had the pitching, just haven't been conistent enough with the bats to beat the best teams. The top team average this year is .373 (Indiana). The 10th best average is .350. We are 84th.
 
Great story by Scott Wright in the Oklahoman today about Gary Ward helping out around the softball program. Crazy that our softball coach who played baseball for a rival school asks him to come around but our baseball program with a head coach who grew up around the man does not.

Anyway, first pitch vs ASU is in 3 hours.
 
Watching OU/LSU. (OU up 1-0 after 1)

Sam Landry was selected as a finalist for POY (Ruby was not), and she's of course good, but she is behind in almost every count, walks a ton of batters, just threw a very wild pitch, but does find a way to get out of most jams. She's not in the top 5 or maybe top 10 in the nation. But, the logo she wears gets her more credit. Frustrating.

Kenny says on interview that Hasler's swing was 'too big" and she needs to shorten up. Agree. She was trying to hit a HR when the team really needed a hit, considering they have none so far.
