American Healthcare continues to go backward

Dr Oz: "We should make you so healthy that you flourish in life and you engage the workplace. Getting America back to work full speed, getting you to work longer if you desire, that builds trillions of dollars of value to the GDP. That's the goal of the health system."

That is exceedingly honest.

I will fully concede that it’s possible I’m not seeing the full picture. I’m going to use round numbers so google experts can go easy on my cipher’n.

Estimates say Medicare for all will cost about $3.5T.

We already spend about $2T combined for Medicare and Medicaid that covers about 140MM Americans.

US citizens spend about $1.5T on private insurance.

US businesses spend about $1.3T on healthcare benefits.

States and local governments spend another $800B on healthcare insurance.

That’s $5.6T in the system on a potential $3.5T Medicare for all expenditure where each stakeholder/payee (Fed, St/Local, Corp & Individual) can continue to pay in but have their current share reduced. Everyone wins and the Fed can use the savings to pay down debt &/or give tax credits to taxpayers. Same goes to state and local. US employers could raise wages or cut prices. I realize that employers and individuals would continue to have FICA and Medicare premiums.

In this dream world average citizen sees their health insurance costs go down and possibly gets a tax break and a wage increase/costs decrease.

I would also advocate for a Medicare for all model that allows for straight Medicare or Medicare Advantage and a private insurance option for businesses or individuals who want to pay up for a “gold plan”. Then also restructure pharma by appointing Rx as drug czar and get drug costs down and changing how costs are negotiated. Further putting coin in individuals and govt pockets.
Yes, i realized this when I moved to Australia. Australia covers everyone with high quality health care, pays docs and nurses very well, and does it for a SMALLER percentage of GDP than the US government currently spends just to cover the poor and the elderly. That doesn't even include private costs.

Folks, we are getting ripped off.

But absolutely no one has the political courage to fix it.

The entire country is turning into a huge steaming pile of excrement. I hardly recognize the country we live in anymore.

Racism is just plain out in the open on twitter all over the place. It isn't even carefully veiled.

Something that I've loved my entire life, college football, has become crappy pro football and the B1G is flirting with selling off to private equity. And there aren't even contracts with players so that you know who is on the teams from one year to the next. It's like it's a whole new team every year.

We've slowed the rate of inflation, and that's good, but that means prices of everything is still going up and three small bags of groceries cost $400. I had to take out second mortgage to buy milk.

I had a man, sweet man that I go to church with, who mentally is... delayed... confide in me that he is losing his food stamps because of the government shut down. I know he isn't the only one in our church that is happening to. Talking with my brother about this the other night he tells my that his sister-in-law was informed by text message from the government that she was losing her food stamps this week (sister of his wife who died, he still calls her his SIL). By TEXT MESSAGE. Can't even send her a damn hard copy letter.

And speaking of church... as I've said, I no long identify as an evangelical because of the spiritualization of support for Trump by evangelicals. I'm having growing conflicts with many of the labels that are used within the Christian community because none of them seem to fit any more. I found a church where I am comfortable. The place where I live is the whitest place where I live in my life. My current church is the only church that I've visited since I've been here where I've seen people of color, so it seemed to me that this church was reaching its community in ways that other churches were not, and since I've been here I've found that to be true.

And healthcare, the topic of this thread. We actually have forces that want to undo the advances we've made in modern medicine. But make no mistake about it, those forces do not want to undo it to improve health, they want to undo it to enrich trial lawyers. Those who want to protect the current system want to protect a system that does nothing but enrich corporations. It's time to burn it all down and start over. The VA system is actually a model that works pretty good.

Our politics... I've mentioned this before... every time I look up to assess where I am politically I find myself further to the left of the current Republican party, and it started during COVID, and I'm pretty doggone sure that my principles and beliefs haven't changes. I'm just astounded, flabbergasted... taking people off the streets and shipping them to foreign prisons without due process. And people cheer this. I want the borders closed and protected. I want ICE to perform it's basic function. But I also want the Constitution upheld. Yes, it will take 1000 years to give everyone due process and equal protection under the law, that is the mess that we have on our hands, but that is what the Constitution demands and that is what protects ALL OF US. And if all of us aren't protected by the Constitution then none of us are.

Good luck convincing anyone of that. The VA has been a political punching bag for years. Never gets credit for the things it does very well, and any issue is magnified as the politicians use it for gain.

Sad but true. There are things that the VA system is very good at.

Bernie Sanders does but far from enough people would vote for him because Medicare For All is Socialism for all. Republicans say you may have to wait for several months to see a doctor, especially for a specialist. And then that much longer for surgery if needed. And the health insurance companies would get hurt bad if they weren't allowed to participate in a substantial way.

Because if you have hepatitis B the vaccine doesn’t work in time to protect your baby. In that case we give the baby hep B immune globulin, because we can’t wait for the baby to develop immunity from the vaccine because you, the mother are transmitting live virus directly to the baby. We also give the vaccine at the same time because we still do want the baby to develop immunity.

“Doing your own research” and “scientific method” preys on people who don’t trust professionals.

Next time land your own plane.

BREAKING: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued the makers of Tylenol, alleging that they deceptively marketed the medication to pregnant women despite alleged links to autism and other disorders.

I would have thought that Texas Republicans would have sued Pfizer and Moderna first, since anti-vaxxers claim their covid vaccines are highly toxic bioweapons that have caused many millions of deaths, yet miserably failed their objectives by not killing billions as the globalist conspirators had wished.

"As recently as last weekend, Trump posted on social media, again urging pregnant women not to take Tylenol unless absolutely necessary and for them not to give the medication to their young children."

I have no problem with this statement if the Trumpians would only hear the "unless absolutely necessary" part, which is basically true, and if they would add the same qualifier to the statement about giving medications to young children. I've said before, unless there is a clear need there is no benefit, and if there is no benefit there is only risk and therefore the risk outweighs the benefit. But Trumpians don't hear the "unless absolutely necessary" part. They only hear the "don't take Tylenol" part through their cognitive selective bias filters.

Good luck with the suit. Discovery is a bitch. If the defendants need an expert witness I'm available.

Measles outbreak in South Carolina grows; Canada’s elimination status threatened

Since measles is a virus, I wonder what Mike Adams, the quack's quack, thinks about it. After all, he said that there is no such thing as a virus that causes the flu. So, you don't need a flu shot. The symptoms of flu are caused by a vitamin D deficiency.

I believe that Adams is one of those disgusting type of deceitful characters, such as Alex Jones, who likely said behind closed doors, "I can't believe how gullible so many people are. I was just joking or being sarcastic but they took me seriously. But by golly, I'm going to try to milk them for all they are worth." Trump and RJK, Jr. have probably said the same.
