American Healthcare continues to go backward

Michigan survivalists here in Norther Michigan didn't last a whole two weeks before storming the state capital, and that was while Trump was still president.

I wonder how they would have been if you didn't have a Democrat governor (and a woman at that) during COVID?

Most of the Midwest did similar stuff during the initial outbreak but I don't remember Indiana and Ohio having people storming the state Capitol in protest.

My dog wants to choose no vaccine. He isn’t antivax, just wants the choice,

Yeah its a stupid argument. If it wasn't there wouldn't be a need for mandatory vaccination because everyone would choose to get their kids vaccinated. And for undeserved areas there would be enough free vaccination clinics that none of it would be an issue.

It seems like when people say its about their choice they would really be ok with it being their way and no one having a choice at all.

Its my choice to drive without a seat belt. It's my choice to go smoke crack. Its my choice to commit bank fraud. What Im not allowed to do those things? I thought this was America!

@RxCowboy can I call this person an idiot?

Edit: I don't do that in real life or online other than here really (figure educating is better than angering) but I desperately want to sometimes. Looking at the responses there are plenty of other people willing to do that.

I've said this before, on Tuesday our university president said that we weren't changing anything, we were going to go on conducting business as usual. On Wednesday the Republican governor of Ohio called a meeting with all university presidents in the state. On Thursday our president said we were sending students home on Friday and to prepare to teach via Zoom on Monday. My class was our first class at 0800 Monday morning, so I had the weekend to learn how to teach via Zoom.

Sadly, on the old site I pretty much predicted that a political resistance would happen. I said, specifically, "If you don't want to wear a mask then claim it's a free speech issue and then you might have a point." I wish I had been wrong.

The argument Ive seen is for personal choice not being anti vaccine.

Personally I think that's stupid logic (try getting in a vehicle and deciding its your choice to go 100 mph on the interstate) but its the logic they are using.

I’ve posted this before.

Exclusive: Trump health officials plan to link coronavirus vaccines to the deaths of 25 children as they consider limiting who should get the shots. The findings appear to be based on unverified reports submitted to an online reporting system which is open to anyone.
Antivaxxers: We want the choice to not get vaccines.

Also antivaxxers: We don’t want you to have the choice to get vaccines.

SENATOR PATTY MURRAY: In May, HHS Secretary RFK Jr. put out a video on social media changing the CDC’s vaccination guidelines for children and pregnant women. How did you learn about that?

Dr. DEBRA HOURY: The same as you. On social media.

SEN. MURRAY: What was your title at CDC when that happened?

DR. HOURY: I was the Chief Medical Officer at the agency.

Q: What was RFK Jr's reaction when you raised the need to consult scientific evidence before making decisions?

Former CDC Director: He stated that there was no scientific evidence associated with these vaccines. He called CDC the most corrupt federal agency in the world, emphasized that CDC employees were horrible people. He said that CDC employees were killing children and they don't care.

Acetaminophen is the most studied medications in history and possibly the safest.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder. That means that something goes wrong during development and typically early in development, often before grade school. Children may not meet developmental markers as they are growing through infancy and toddler years. It’s tempting to want to find something to blame for it, but absolutely no causal link has been found to date. The increase in prevalence is because of improvements in identifying neurodevelopmental disorders.

Think of it this way, when I was in pharmacy school in the 80s the diagnostic criteria for diabetes was a fasting blood sugar of 200 or higher. Now it is 120 or higher or an abnormal A1c. The diagnostic criteria are much more sensitive and therefore more people will be diagnosed, and thus the prevalence increases. This is the “chronic disease pandemic” RFK Jr is talking about that he doesn’t understand. Similarly, the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorders have gotten more sensitive and we have gotten better at identifying kids with autism, and thus the prevalence has increased. Again, RFK Jr doesn’t understand this.

How and why does this supposed immunologist and biochemist William Parker come up with such strange stuff?
I don’t know the guy and can’t begin to guess what his issues are.

I can tell you for a fact that RFK Jr doesn’t understand how increasing the sensitivity of diagnostic criteria affects the prevalence of disease.
