American Healthcare continues to go backward

Knowledge won’t protect you.

Neo-Gnosticism has become the default worldview, but the Venn diagram of knowledge for the left and right are vastly different.
Here’s what I hate about this. My wife suffers from a genetic disease. Out of sheer universal randomness her mom was a recessive carrier as was her dad. No one else in her cousins cousins aunts and uncles has her disease. Globally there are less than 100,000 people w her specific diagnosis which means there might be…might be…a handful of cases in Oklahoma.

Given her disease and condition, a common allergy can cause days of prolonged coughing, shortness of breath, lack of sleep and 24 hour oxygen level monitoring. Imagine what a small cold can do to her.

Her neurologist who is an amazing Dr and all around great human being has told us that the best way to keep her out of the hospital and among the living is to keep all of her vaccinations especially those that deal with respiratory illness up to date.

To date we have been successful and she hasn’t once been magnetized to a refrigerator, developed Tourette, had uncontrollable convulsions or seizures or mutated.

Drs like this. People like RFK are the lowest form of POS who grift off frightened ignorant people.

I don't want it but I feel like we need a polio outbreak. It feels awful to think about but we a couple of generations removed from experiencing that horror. I can't think of any other way to convince people who have no interest in being convinced.

Again not advocating that, just think it would take a real shock to make people realize they are doing terrible damage to our healthcare safety net.
I’m one of the people with the polio vaccine scars on their arm, though you can barely see it now. We all lined up in the cafeteria when I was in second grade and they shot us in the arm with a cattle gun. I don’t remember any parental permission slip or opt-out form. They just vaccinated everyone. And bingo, polio pretty much vanished.

I’m so sorry. I totally understand why he would anger you. If it helps I’m angry for you.

The timing of all this coincides with a trial lawyer case. He’s doing nothing but carrying their water.

Thanks. We don’t carry her situation like a badge, but are always looking for ways to have constructive dialogue w people who question decisions. Sometimes we make a positive impact and other times ignorant hateful humans leave us shaking our heads.

It sometimes gets to a point when we are masked up (yes we still mask in situations) where I tell people who question our mask wearing that we’ve both recently had violent diarrhea. That story is especially effective in an elevator.

It’s scientists like our Dr or yourself or steross that I appreciate speaking w or reading. Let’s me know not everyone is bat $h!+. You don’t post feelings. Sometimes anecdotes but consistently stats and studies.

The absolutely crazy part is that I am a Reaganite conservative, but through the pandemic and now in the post-pandemic era I find myself pretty far to the left of center and I am absolutely mystified as to exactly how that happened because I haven’t changed. I still believe pretty much the same things I did in 2019 before the pandemic.

I was lucky. I received on a sugar cube.

For non-vaccine health care...

My VA primary care places a consult in July.
In August, I get a call from the VA to schedule and get told they are booking in October and if I want to be seen sooner, I can go to community care.
Honestly, October would have been fine, but I figured might as well get it done, so I say CC.

CC takes until last week to send me the info. Then, they sent me the number to the chilidrens hospital
I get that resolved and today get in touch with the office they referred me to in order to be faster. They are booking in APRIL!

I have a lesion on my shoulder that might be squamous cell. The earliest I can get in to a dermatologist is March.

How long will we have to wait for specialty consultations before the "in single payer health care, people die waiting" fearmongering goes away? Hey, if you die in single payer, at least you have some money left to give to your kids instead of dying broke. But, seriously, when are we going to admit that this health care system is a money sucking mess and it needs to be better?

I'm sorry to learn of your suspicion. It only took several weeks for me to see a dermatologist after I was referred to one after going to a free skin cancer check at the Stillwater Hospital. It was an ordeal to get over. I had pre skin cancer and cancer on my arms and face. A biopsy on a spot on my upper back came back negative but not for my arm. I was given Imiquimod to put on my arms and a different ointment to put on my face every day. As expected, it turned my face red. But it worked and after two years I don't have skin cancer. Fortunately, the scars are minor and not readily visible. Good luck to you.
