2024 Presidential Election

Answer my question first.
The fact that they are both paid by the taxpayer is completely irrelevant to the point and where the similarity ends. PPP loans were used to keep employees paid and overhead covered because of government shutdowns. Without it those employees would have lost their jobs and benefits. Was there grift and fraud in the PPP program? Absolutely. Would the entire economy have collapsed without PPP. Yep. There were around $750 billion in PPP loans forgiven to save American jobs and keep people’s business open during a pandemic. There is currently $1.7 TRILLION in student loan debt that you want to forgive so that Buffy can get her liberal arts degree. You can’t possibly be this stupid.

There really should not be an ideology debate on this topic. Two completely different programs that only share fact that they were government (taxpayer) funded.

No more discussion from me today - gotta drive to Stilly.
One thing we can all agree today —- Go Pokes!

Thanks for telling me my rationale for wanting to address the student debt crisis, nostradamus. What else do I think?

There was literally no oversight on PPP loans. Not a bit. The funds "were supposed" to go to payroll and we have tons of evidence they didnt for many, many people and companies. This initiative would actually go directly to those that hold the loans.

The student debt crisis grows by the day and is also going to collapse the economy on its current trajectory. It is completely unsustainable in its current form. If we are going to bail out banks, airlines, numerous businesses--even some owned by foreign governments, we should at least consider bailing out students in whole or in part.

We then should reconsider the current approach to financial aid and lending. Having a limit of $137,500 encourages people to borrow up to that amount and incentivizes institutions to increase tuition to that amount. Address the cause and the issue at the same time.

So the over 100 employees of Kelly's that continued to get paychecks during the government shutdown because Kelly got a PPP loan were wealthy? You have no idea what you are talking about. Good grief.
you're right, it didn't benefit the wealthy by helping them keep their businesses going...and if people used ppp loans correctly they helped out not only themselves but people who needed help to take care of their families...student loan forgiveness wouldn't help people who need help taking care of their families by alleviating some debt in their lives...and in the long run helping the economy...wait a minute, yes it would...

Not one bit of oversight? You sure about that? My little bank made about 400 of them. I promise you that the documentation for was about 1000 times greater than simply signing a student loan. Nobody, literally nobody, is arguing that something doesn’t need to be done about the student loan issue. To compare the two programs is just simply ignorant and not something that a serious person would even consider.

Yep, just about none. I'll take an investigative report over your anecdote:

Under rules set by the U. S. Department of the Treasury, banks can levy processing fees from 1 to 5 percent on PPP loans. The highest percentage fees are charged for the lowest loans, below $350,000, and the lowest fees apply to the highest loans. The median was around 3%.

Looks like SBA paid the fees.

Average PPP loan was a little over $67,000.

So $67,000 on 400 loans at 3% fee is over $800,000.

If you go to the high end it’s over $1.3MM in fees.

I know some banks didn’t like the hassle of PPP loans but some made bank so to speak

So why forgive the PPP loans entirely?

Why not at least attempt to require documentation to show PPP loans were utilized to pay employees?

Like a lot of government ideas. Good intentions but horrible policy and oversight. More taxpayer waste.

They wouldn't even tell us who received them lol and your wanting documentation to see how they spent it hahahahahahhahahahah

Trump administration won’t say who got $511 billion in taxpayer-backed coronavirus loans

Do you really believe the government does not know who got the PPP loans?

FYI: They sent personalized letters to recipients forgiving the PPP loans.

Don't you remember Dear Orange Leader trying to take complete and full control over those plans and their repayments. WHILE keeping it secret of who did and did not get one ...ohh and the ability to forgive them too......he wanted that power to hold over their heads and make them do his bidding for loan relief

Tells you a lot about how Trump tries to gain power

Where are you going with this? I am unclear what point you are trying to make.

I am guessing now you realize that it is not a secret who received a PPP loan.

My point is repayment of unused PPP loans should have been a requirement.

They released who got them and amounts. Just google “who got ppp loans in _______”

Interesting some group in OK called The Museum of the Bible got $4.2MM. Life Church over $7MM.

Yep.

I have no idea if either of those organizations utilized the funds, but I think it is fair to assume that at least some of the funds were not distributed as designed.

Nice lottery win for those two. At the expense of the taxpayer.

New Marist poll has Biden +3 head to head vs Trump. Throw in RFK Jr and the lead goes to +7 as Jr steals more from Trump than Biden. Interesting that this is general and not at all indicative of electoral college.
