Utah primary schools ban Bible for 'vulgarity and violence' BBC

A school district in the US state of Utah has removed the Bible from elementary and middle schools for containing "vulgarity and violence".
The move follows a complaint from a parent that the King James Bible has material unsuitable for children.
Utah's Republican government passed a law in 2022 banning "pornographic or indecent" books from schools.
Most of the books that have been banned so far pertain to topics such as sexual orientation and identity.
The banning of the Bible comes amid a larger effort by US conservatives in states to ban teachings on controversial topics such as LGBT rights and racial identity. Bans on certain books deemed offensive are also in place in Texas, Florida, Missouri and South Carolina. Some liberal states have also banned books in some schools and libraries, citing perceived racially offensive content.
The Utah decision was made this week by the Davis School District north of Salt Lake City after a complaint filed in December 2022. Officials say they have already removed the seven or eight copies of the Bible they had on their shelves, noting that the text was never part of students' curriculum.

How the turntables have turned...

All these people attempting to use public education to indoctrinate young kids with their various political, social, or religious views... *sigh* That includes all sides that are currently doing it. Looks like the busy bodies who worked so hard to enact this stuff are now getting what they deserve, and its making society worse (yet again).

There will be Bibles in every classroom next year and whoever proposed or promoted this ban will be looking for a new job over the summer. These liberal protests in a conservative state things rarely go as planned. Unless the plan is to make the news for a couple of days and go out in a fleeting blaze of glory, in which case mission accomplished!

The Rule of Unintended Consequences in action.

I predicted exactly this when these dumb laws starting being passed.
Wait until the Oklahoma School board has to vote on passing Public Funding for The Church of Satan private school. They passed it easy enough for public funding for a Private Catholic school...and you know this challenge is coming down the pike and you KNOW they won't use public funds to fund a Church of Satan school and in the end its only going to cost us taxpayers money for defending this crap action in a court of law and losing and having to undo the stupidity they have already passed.

I’m just a proponent of Karl Popper’s theories and position regarding the “Paradox of Tolerance”.

It's not going to be "The Church of Satan".

It's going to be a charter school sponsored by a local Mosque/The Islamic Brotherhood Society/CAIR (Council on Arab Islamic Relations) where they want to teach Quranic theology as part of the curriculum and request discrimination exemptions like the Catholic Church were granted but based upon Sharia instead of the bible.

And people are going to lose their minds when it happens.

Probably supporters are hoping it will go all the way to the U. S. Supreme Court and it will okay it. That would open a Pandora's box if a lot of people in rural towns as well as metros want to turn Sunday School rooms in churches into private schools with public tax dollars.

You missed it, there already is.

Is what?

I don't believe any other religious education charter schools have been applied for yet.

I could be wrong, but would like to see citation to actual evidence.

Dove, an extremely well ran school that has tremendous academics, did originate from a few people from the Muslim faith. Sally Kern worked them over pretty hard. She couldn't find any religious ties and she tried very hard. The Dove guys follow the rules and keep their religion our of it. The catholics could take a lesson

I agree that Dove isn't a religious education school. I also know that they don't discriminate on the basis of faith, nationality, sex, creed, or anything. I've done some volunteer work with Dove Academy and it is very inclusive.

The Catholic School charter expressly states that religious education in the Catholic faith will be part of their curriculum and their application specifically reserves the right to discriminate based upon the Catholic faith.

That's more what I was talking about in my prior post. Wait until the app for a charter school expressly stating that they intend to educate and adhere to sharia gets submitted. I agree that the Dove guys definitely keep their religion out of it. The Sally Kerns of the world will lose their minds when that happens and are going to look VERY silly trying to differentiate why they voted yes for the Catholic School Charter, but no for the Sharia School Charter.

Not that it changes my opinion on the topic but, do we know what parts of their faith will be included in the education?

It's going to be a virtual, I know their initial discussion was to be a typical catholic education but I could be mistaken.
